We can't all just go out and buy a new computer when things start occurring with these lovely expensive devices. But, I've found recently that there are some pretty creative ways out there that can help take off the pressure of needing to purchase a new computer when you are having some problems.
One problem that I've been facing is my laptop overheating. Yep, that's right, It loves to get so warm, that it turns itself off.
Well, I recently figured out a work-around of sorts. Not only do I have my laptop on a cooling pad, mind you, these are not designed for crap, but I now have a small personal fan that sits on my desk pointed at the bottom of my laptop to keep it cool.
So far, this has proven to work pretty well and I've managed to keep working for quite some time with out any problems.
Hopefully, I'll be able to hold out for a period of time until I can actually replace my laptop.

Hi
Even I was facing this overheating problem with my old laptop. But now I am having new laptop (because of some other reason) and facing no problem so far.
This heating problem is quite common in laptop. and this cooling pad and fan is the best option to have. They aren't too costly so everyone should carry it as they can face such problem anytime with their laptop.

You are right. With all the upgrades they have done to improve the laptops, they forgot to find someway to keep the units cooled down though.
There are times that even the two fans don't help and I've had to grab a can of compressed air for a quick cool down.

Overheating is perhaps the most common problem in laptops today, with those high speed processors and video cards in a tiny space with no ventilation at all!! It has happened a my a couple of times that is suddenly turns itself off when playing a resource-intensive game and the solution was similar to yours, just buy a cooling pad with coolers in its base, keep it in a cool environment and point the ceiling fan or turbo directly at it , moreover in those warm summer days it wasn't easy to continue to use it with heavy programs.
I don't think that buying a new one will solve the problem. Actually, all modern laptops have the very same problem when running complex programs, so replacing it for just that will give you no advantage.

It is amazing I will admit. I'm thinking that the internal fan may need a good cleaning. Just have to get off my butt and pull the computer apart and see if that might be the problem. Those little fans can be a pain.
Yesterday my computer shut itself down 3 or 4 times. So far, given that it is colder today, its been running fine. However, I'm not taking any chances and have my little fan pointed directly at the laptop. lol
