I love to read so I set this challenge to see if I could read 50 books by the end of the year I am just now starting book number eight. Last year I read 36 books. I know there are a lot of people that like to read have you ever set a goal to see how many books you could read?

I've never set a goal, but I read quite a bit. Ours is a reading family! I'm trying to think of how many I've read since the first of the year and I think it's about... 8 or 9. At first, I didn't think I could read another 50 by the end of the year, but at the rate I'm going, I could. That's about 4 books a month and that's doable, I think.

You should try and set a goal and just see if you can reach it if you don't reach it try beating the number you did reach for your next goal.

I used to belong to a book reading club at the library that I belonged to. I would read between 50 and 100 books during the summer. It was a piece of cake for me because I could read a book in one night. That's the biggest problem for me, I get a book and can't put it down and will finish it in one night. I have recently started reading murder mysteries. I have a favorite author who wrote some wonderful Teddy Bear Mysteries. They aren't gory and well written. They are by a man by the name of John Lamb and the books are about 300 pages and a delightful read.
I also read teddy bear making books, beading and jewelry making books and of course my college books. I do need to get my eyes checked again so I can get some reading glasses. I have ambliopia and use one eye at a time, and that is what I do with my reading. My left eye starts reading the line and half way through my right eye takes over. It works great because neither eye gets too much strain, but it's tough because of the difference in the prescription for my glasses.
What do you read? I know that you will reach your challenge as if you've read 8 books in less than three months you will reach your goal easily. Go for it girlfriend!!!

I wish I could find a book reading club where I live my library here does not do nothing for adults. I will have to check these Teddy bear mysteries books out they sound really good. I read christian/fiction/romance books.I think I will reach it if I keep going the way I am.

The books are about a retired San Francisco police officer who was wounded in the line of duty and now is unable to continue on his job. He was retired on disability and moved from California to Virginia with his wife (who makes teddy bears). They are really well written by of all people a retired police officer (from San Diego if I remember right.)
The book titles are:
The Mournful Teddy
The False-Hearted Teddy
The Crafty Teddy
The Clockwork Teddy
The Treacherous Teddy
The author's name is John J. Lamb. I emailed the gentleman and he is wonderful to put it mildly. I am hoping that he will be able to write more teddy bear mysteries but at the present time the publisher doesn't feel that they are profitable, so there are only the five books out about teddy bears.
BTW, is the baby in your avatar your's? It is darling!!!

As you may remember from my post on Gather, the only reading goal I set for myself this year was to read more books than I did last year...I have already succeeded as i only read about 3 or 4 books & I am almost half way through book 9...now my goal is to read as many books as I can so I can diminish my book collection.

Wow, you take right after me, I always try ot read 52 books every year and I keep a list of what I have read and how good they are, 1 = brill/very good 2 =just good and 3= boring. Sadly I don't find many books that I can rate at number 1 I but it down to having read so many books in the past.
I have been setting myself this goal for about five years now. Its very good ot have a goal to work towards. I always go for 52 books for the year rather than a book a week because sometimes I read quicker if the book is really good and some weeks I seem ot have more time ot read than other weeks.

No,I would not set a number of books to read. Then it would not be a pleasure anymore,it would be too much like it was in high school, when we had to read certain books during summer vacation.I read a lot,but never counted how many!.Now that I received a Kindle for my birthday,I will be able to count them if I want, since there is a record of them in the memory!

I can't wait to get my kindle from my mom I am looking forward to it. Now that you posted about it being able to help keep track of how many you have read I am looking forward to getting it even more. I was happy with how many I read last year I read 36 books last year.I would be happy to beat that even if I do not reach my goal of 50 books.

Yes I had set but since I was in school I couldn't meet up the goal :( . Right now I don't have. But I am a bookworm. If I don't get a new book to read I start reading the old books. Whatever it is I LOVE TO READ BOOKS!

I am a big bookworm as well as a matter a fact I have 2 big boxes in storage right now of books I have already read and I have more to add to it now. I know my husband will be glad when I get my kindle because then he will not see me buying a lot of books.

I envy you! Since I am graduating from my university soon, my hands are really full right now. I really wish to read books but with piles of academic stuff in my face at the time being, I really can't afford to do leisure reading. Well, you gave me an idea though. After I graduate, I will set a book challenge to know how much I can read in a year. :)

I totally understand I sure would not want to read anything else after being in books all day in classes. You go for it once you graduate set a goal and have fun with it. Last year I read 36 books.

I am currently reading a ton of juvenile fiction, trying to find out which books I should order multiples of for my class for next year. I am getting through 2 or 3 books a week.
As for books geared toward adults, I will probably get through 25 or 30 before the end of the year.

With the size of the books I read and how many pages it takes me a while to read one depending on how good the book is I can finish it in a week. The shortest time it took me to read a book was a day and the reason for that is it was such a good book I could not put it down.

Interest in reading is a great gift to a person. When we apply or mix our power to imagine while reading, we get amazing advantages by reading good books. I think in joy as well as in sorrows reading help us by plenty of ways.

It is nice that you read so many books and I envy you because I barely have time to pick up one book. When I was still in school, I used to read non-stop. I even collect books! I like reading fiction stories and some biographies. I am not much into sci-fi because sometimes they are hard to understand
I also challenged myself before to read 50 books in one year but I did not succeed! Maybe I should try again this year. It is only March so I still got plenty of time left

Hello Tina :)
I love reading too. I read fast and can't stop till I finish reading the book. Even I read the Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn just in a week. But the effect was I skipped my lunch, didn't do homework and even my laundry I can read till eight books in a month. But since I join mylot, I seldom read book . No problem, I still can read the news and other discussions.
And no, not yet. And I don't think to set a goel for the book I am gonna read, I've been very busy lately :)
Go on Tina, hope you can read more than fifty books. :) What kind of book mostly do you read? Romance?

Wow a week to finish those books you are good. My favorite type books to read are christian/fiction/romance. I like thriller type books as well as long as they are not to gross or anything.

I haven't challenge myself with a number of books i can read in a year. Like you I love reading. 50 books is attainable if you read a lot, you can even increase that to 1 book for day but of course providing that you do not have work to do.:) I can read 300plus pages of novel in a day. So far that has been my limit. Good luck with your goal!

I have never thought of setting a goal of reading so many pages a day. I should do that with the book I am reading now because it is 500 pages. Maybe go for 100 pages a day.

I like to read but I have to like the books I am reading to read the entire book to the finish. IF it doesn't grasp my attention by page 100 then I stop reading it and find another novel.

I love to read too. I haven't set a goal on how many I should ready this year. Probably up to this present time, I have only read about 3 books. Usually, I read before I sleep. But most of the time, I can only read like 2-3 chapters every night just to make me sleep. I hope I can read more books this year like you.

It can definitely be a good idea to set goals for yourself, like you do. I would love to be able to read so many books in a year. Unfortunately, I'm really a fast reader or anything like that, which can make it difficult. I'm not always able to find the time to read, as much as I would want to. I just try to read as much as I can, and as many books as I can.
