how will affect your performance in your work by its environment?

Office conditions really do affect a person's work. There have been lots of studies pertaining to proper temperature, lighting, air circulation, spacing of work stations, types of chairs used, even the height of your desk, just to name a few. These have some effects on an employee's performance at work. That's why good companies try to make the office comfortable to their employees as much as possible since productivity can suffer if the physical conditions of the office are bad. Does your place of work have centralized airconditioning. Usually the building doesn't turn them on during weekends. Your company should have in place at least some fans but I know those wouldn't be enough to cool the place down especially now that summer is almost here. Your bosses should be aware of these things and should do something about it.

It is important to work in an environment wherein we can concentrate more for our tasks. But if there is something bothering us, like the heat because of no air-conditioner, then better not work and just go home. Or you can raise the concern to the management. We are ineffective if we can't concentrate on what we should be doing because of environment interference.

to be able to work better, we should be in a healthy environment. how can our mind functions well when we feel the heat outside and how can we concentrate with what we are doing when it is noisy. is your company cost cutting that is why its no air-con during Sundays? its hard especially that summer is here.

I was working for one of the largest banks in North America and was asked to come in on Saturdays to work. Evenings and weekends the building management did not provide air conditioning or ventilation. I had to stop going in on Saturdays. Two months later we got a message that air conditioning and ventilation would be provided on weekends. I felt like I was working in a third world country for a long time. It's a difficult situation to work in to say the least!

I used to work in an office without windows and air conditioning. It was a pain, and it was very hot too. It's extremely hard to concentrate in an environment like that. Is it possible to turn on the air conditioning separately in the room where you work, or ask the boss if something could be done about it?

It's funny that you should say this now, because I am writing an assignment on exactly this, and it is proving to be very interesting indeed. A place of work should be comfortable, but not to the extent where you're more likely to sleep than to get any kind of work completed. A window is vital, and those people who aren't able to see daylight while they're at work tend to be the least productive in day to day sales. Having no air conditioning must be uncomfortable, and you should speak to your boss about it as it will more than likely be having an effect on the work that you're able to do.

I don't think I will be comfortable working in a non air conditioned and noisy office especially that my work is accounting-related. I could not concentrate if that would be the case. There was one time that we were requested to work on a weekend and the air condition was turned off, I really had difficulty breathing at that time. It seems that there was no air and that it was very contained. Perhaps, it's all in the mind. But, that was what really happened. :-(

Hi asliah! It's the same with me. I can't work properly if it's hot. Our office's air conditioning unit got busted and our General Services Unit is taking too long to find someone who can fix it. It's probably okay if it's the rainy season but it's already the dry season here in our country and it's really hot in the afternoon! It actually gets hot by 10AM and by that, I can't get any work done because it's just so uncomfortable. I would end up just playing games in the computer and going around just to ignore the heat.
