Good day My fellow myLotters! I would like to share what I had realized after I graduate from school. I realized that having a college degree is bot enough, Why I said that? It's because In order for a person to be competitive enough s/he should have an additional skills that can be used in looking for a job.
Would you agree with this? I wanna hear it from you fellow myLotters

hii craziestqueenever...Yes you are right, education is not enough nowadays. People with additional skills will be more easy to get job. There are many people with well education but there are less people with well education plus special skills. In this case, people with some additional skills will be the winner.

Definitely! Nice that you do know what I mean. Those people who do have that certain skill has an advantage when it comes to job application.

I agree but it does depend on what type of job you would want to do- if you want a job involving medicine or law, go to graduate school. If you want a technician job you need to go to tech school, etc.

I agree with you. In fact it seems that today an university degree is basic and necessary. High school certification is nearly ignored. The competition is very hard today. This is why people still go to study when they have a job.
I love China

You can be accepted even if you are a high school graduate but then you are just a saleslady only.

Great! You're doing the right thing! If I had done that stuff when I was in college surely I will be a better person now!

Now a days, we must practically choose a college course that is in demand or applicable with the present situation of the your country.

I beg to disagree with your response. Getting an degree because it is in demand is such a lame advice. Why? I was victim of it. I took up Nursing and now what? There are too many nurses here in our country.

Probably it a college degrees is not enough to land an ideal job but surely it can be your edge over the others. And I think we all begin from the lower part of the ladder and it is the skill that will bring us up. The college degree give us the foundation and after we graduate it is fully our responsibility to maximize it to make it an asset to us. If we dont work to improve then a college degree is surely not enough to land a job in this competitive world.

Those who had finished college have an edge but what if all of the applicants do have a college degree.

I have a Bachelors degree in educcation and a Masters in Early Childhood Education and I still cannot find work. I am currently living in Nevada and really do not llke it here. It is hard going from living in the country to living in the city. I am hoping that once Randy and I can find work we cna move back to the country again. It is hard finding work because many people in the area cannot find work. I met someone who has been out of work for two years and has given up on finding work.

For those who were able to gain a degree indeed it is part of what boosts your confidence. However, things can go upside down and the less successful in their studies take positions greater than those who graduated. With this in mind, students in college have to consider adding more skills that are deemed useful in the future as a precautionary measure.

Sometime it does and sometimes it doesn't. The college degree is only 'enough' perhaps when a position calls for it and the person can actually use the knowledge gathered in school to apply it in the job. It's a basic requirement and it's not exactly an exceptional one. Yes, some employers look for more additionals - like skills or certain traits to be able to accept a new hire. The reason for this is to make the transition and work flow as easily, effective and faster than possible.
It's the employers prerogative to hire someone they think is qualified and up to their standards but sometimes, in this competitive job and labor search some things are compromised. I don't know how others can cope with that situation but it's always good to cover all bases.

Well, I think that it has been proven over and over again, a college degree is not the end all and be all of all things. We have living proofs, like Bill Gates, who have shown us a very good example of this.
I also know a lot of people who have not finished a degree and are really successful all the same. Likewise, there are many people who's really done great finishing their degree but just have so-so lives right now. I think what matters is how you use what you have learned, whether you finish your degree or not.

Well Im kind of agree with that. But sometimes there some works (many in my country) that more pay attention on you have good looking face or not. I hate to say this, but this is true. Even if we got degree and skills, some job will give the opportunity to someone who have pretty/ handsome face.

I think that both skills and experience are important to have when looking for a job that relates to your college degree... I know a lot of degrees seem totally random and I know friends who have graduated and now are looking for jobs, and of course having no luck with their English Lit and History degrees. But I think there are some degrees MORE worth pursuing, like something like business management or something. *shrugs*. Happy MyLoTTING!
