Due to the recent trend of SOPA and PIPA acts out there even if they say that these bills have been turned down, we can see how much they have affected the internet. Most sites like filehosting sites have gone down. The most recent that I discovered is that google has started filtering torrent sites in their list. To me torrents are a little bit different than filehosting sites. I think filehosting sites may be in violation of piracy because they were charging fees for premium access to content that they don't have rights to. Torrents however are more different for me. They don't charge anything for these contents, and they are from various network of people. I guess you can compare it to a university having one CD of a particular band being passed from one person to another. I think acts of sharing aren't illegal. Renting the CD out for a price without a permit from the creators however is different. I want to know how you see these issues my fellow mylotters. I

Hi, It seems that the act of "downloading" a content is not illegal if you find it somewhere on line. But the act of "sharing" a copyrighted material is illegal. Therefore, if you make a copy of a copyrighted movie of song and start sending it to people then you can be fined. But those people who just receive it (download it) are not guilty! :) That's how it works here in Europe.
