The initial reaction of people when i tell them we got ourselves a pitbull is shock and surprise and this: it's too dangerous, why did you get a pitbull?
Before i adopt a dog or any pet on that matter, i researched about them for days and days and learn as much as i can. I go over the pros and cons and educate myself before jumping the gun!
If pitbulls are dangerous why the heck would i endanger my son by getting one? Which means they're not. Pitbulls are very loving animals to people. In fact they easily get stolen as they don't hesitate to get near people. But they say they are aggressive, ruthless animals! Not towards a human being they're not. They're never aggressive, unless you train them to be. All dogs are aggressive if they are trained to become one! Pitbulls are aggressive only towards another dog or small animals if they were not socialized at all. My pitbull plays with my shih tzu. They don't have any troubles. But i'm always on the lookout just in case Raven (pitbull) would suddenly become aggressive to GAry (shih tzu). But i trust Raven 100% with my son than with Gary.

There are no dangerous dog breeds, there are only dangerous, ignorant or irresponsible dog owners.
Friends of mine had a pitbull before they got a baby. When their first baby was born, they bring him from hospital and show him to dog. Since that day, dog was cared about the baby as much as they did. He would come to see if the baby was crying, or anything that is happening, he will be there to watch. So much of dangerous dogs...
From my experience, preteen kids that taking care of dogs (or pets in general), are more responsible and behaving better than kids without pets. So, this is one way of education and "social training" for future adults, and teach them to be responsible and empathetic human beings.

That's what i want to point out. I got Raven, our pittbull when she's only 5 weeks old and she's getting along with everybody now. She's already 9 weeks old and she loves everybody in the house.

You are correct there breeds of pitbull that are nice and tamed.Animals get aggressive if they've been hurt, maltreated and famined meaning if they don't get to feed well. The show type of pitbull are nice and very kind to people and other dogs.On the other hand the fighting breed are those that are hard to tame.I know for a fact because my uncle is a breeder of dogs in our farm. :)

All pitbulls are fighting breeds, like rhott. Yes a rhott is a fighting breed long before pitbulls were discovered and bred as one. But to raise them as fighting breeds is actually considered an animal cruelty which most backyard breeders of these dogs do.

My dog is a mix breed of a pitbull and a dalmatian. He's big, but very quiet. He barks at people he doesn't know, and that's what I like in him. He is a very good guard. My only problem is that I could rarely walk him around because he's too strong. Like humans, when he sees an attractive dog, he runs after it, and I end up running too fast. Quite a good physical exercise, but it makes me too tired.

I see you've researched a lot before you bought the dog. I also heard that if you don't train the dog to be aggresive, it won't be. It's good that you're alert in the case that Raven could be dangerous. Therefore enjoy your pet and have a great time.

It is good that pet owners-to-be could do their research before getting a real one. Having a pet animal is not a simple matter of just providing food and shelter. The animal has a life with emotions and needs, just like a human. So it is important to take care of them in all aspects to make sure that they are healthy and happy to be a pet in the house. Your knowledge on the matter will be very helpful in understanding and guiding its behavior. But I feel that we must always be careful with their animal instincts. It is something that is hard to grasp and sometimes it is just being what they are, regardless of the level of training that they have gone thru.

Have you seen the dog whisperer show by Cesar Milan? MOst of the animals he deal with are untrained, nevertheless he could get them to listen to him. Especially with the dogs, they respect the leader of the pact and the pet owner must be that leader and must learn how to become that leader. So it's not only about how well the dog is trained but how well the leader of the pact deals with that dog.

I had wanted to mention Cesar Milan to you too! :) I am a fan of "Dog Whisperer". He is really a pro with the dogs. I have learned something about the dogs from him. I agree with his way of dealing with the dogs but I feel that not everyone of us can do like him without really putting in efforts. I remember there was an episode about 2 dogs always went in search of food in the kitchen when the owner is out of the house. Even the owner could not believe that his dogs could do such a thing until he installed a cctv to film. Of course, Cesar helped the owner to adjust the dogs' behavior but the point I want to put across is that there are still unknowns in a dog that we don't know about. Just always be careful especially with little kids around. Just a precaution.

Never ever trust an animal with a child.
Now, I'm not saying that pit bulls are dangerous, they're not - they're bred and raised to be fighting and attack dogs, but when raised in a loving home they're a fantastic breed to have. I'm on the 'don't blame the breed' team, it's definitely the humans that cause the problems.
That said never trust your dog, any dog alone with a child. Not a collie, a terrier, a pit bull, a St. Bernard, none of them. You cannot trust any animal alone with a chid.

My son is not like any other child. He knows how to be a leader of the pact. So i can trust him alone with my dogs and i've done that for a long time. AT a very tender age, he's a responsible pet owner and i'm proud of that.

I also agree with you both.
We should always secure our children with any animal, because we don't know what they might unknowingly do to the animal that may provoke it to bite or be aggressive.

Good for you! Pitbulls are amazing dogs, as long as they are trained and treated properly. I do not agree with the stigmas society has placed on this breed - of course, conversations regarding poodle attacks obviously are not as interesting. As long as you give the proper exercise and affection, a pitbull can definently be your best friend.
