There's A Fly In My..... Coffee

Yep, that's right. As I sit here and carefully contemplate my next article a little fly has decided that my cup of coffee is the place to take a swim.
I attempted to rescue the little bugger. It didn't work, he decided to dive down deep into my warm cup of coffee.
After five minutes of frustration, I poured my cup out and created a fresh cup. Mind you another little fly decided it was his turn to take a dive in my new cup of coffee and alas, I've had to do the same thing yet again. I'm only hoping that the "third" time is the charm.

I too would be a fan of a good mug of coffee during my day, though "Coffee Flies" don't seem to be a problem around here...(Yet!) At least,I don't recall any splash landing in mine before..
I'm familiar with the little ones we call "Vinegar Flies" that end up in opened vinegar bottles or pickled products..there must be something especially enticing about your coffee to draw them in!
The word must be getting around the fly community about your coffee if they're making the trip to visit...

I wouldn't be big on insect identification, but I think fruit flies are bigger than house flies..these "vinegar flies" are way smaller than houseflies..the little beggars get in everywhere there's a gap!

I hate that!! Why are they drawn to coffee? In the hot months if I make a pot of coffee I have to cover it or put it in a thermos.
Worse, is that my dog, Trixie, loves coffee with milk and sugar! I have to be careful when I put my cup down on the coffee table or side table. She will jump on the couch and start drinking it!
Just saying the word coffee makes her come running! It is nuts!

How funny. I actually have a cat that like to take a sip once in a while. She has to be in the mood though. It is hilarious to watch her sniff the coffee then wait to decide if she really wants a drink.
I can only imagine what kind of dog Trixie is. If she's a Jack Russell Terrier, I'm sure she loves to jump and bounce at your feet with the "magic" word.

Hi Chulce, I hate it when that happens. I will use a covered cup if I have to, to keep the coffee fresh. It also stays hot a lot longer. It is not quite the season for us to be plagued by flies yet where I live.

Oh just eat them up. They have a lot of proteins, you should ask Bear Grillz about it.
Seems like they like coffee.
Maybe they're a little low on energy.
I suggest you make a coffee every day for the bugs inside your house.
Be nice, lend them a ... pair of legs :)

ewww . . that's disgusting!!! when I'm reading this, I remember that I had an experienced also with a fly. We are having launch with my friends in a EAT ALL YOU CAN restaurant, then when I'm in my 3rd plate already, because the food taste good. I noticed that there is a fly on my plate. I feel like I want to vomit all the food that I ate.

Hi chulce. I guess that's happened to all of us. But I have never tried to fish them out. I've only dumped the container as fast as I can because he grosses me out so badly. Uggg!

I admire your concern for the fly. I don't think I have that in me. I guess I consider flies as pest, dangerous ones at that since they are likely to be carrying germs of some sort. One single fly getting on any food or drink I'm having, I would immediately replace it with a new one - the food or drink, that is :)

I guess a part of me was considering the fact that it was living and still alive when I attempted to remove it to begin with. I planned to replace the coffee no matter if the fly had been removed or just washed down the drain of the sink. I don't care to drink or eat after bugs either. They are nasty.

Hey chulce
how odd this is because today at work I went to take a sip of my coffee and yep a huge fly in there! Grrr stupid flies go buy your own coffee!!!
I think the worst fly in coffee mishap was when I didn't notice there was a fly in there and I drank the fly :( bad times...

Every great event in your life will be preceded by Butterflies in your stomach. Please don"t allow that to stop you from reaching to the very heights that you can achieve. Any Butterflies out.I have flown there using Spanish Airlines like Iberia and Air Europa. They fly from Spain to Spanish speaking places in Latin America. I would bring with me a photo of me and my son and leave it there just like one of the astronomers did. How about you?And I don"t know how the scientists discover that they taste sweet.

What kind of bug is that? For sure you really need to make another coffee for all over again.

hi there,
awww it must have liked the taste and smell of your coffee hehe. but i don't like flies, i consider it a very dirty creature, also if an animal leaked my food or drink, i would throw it already or maybe just give it to them to finish them hehehe even if i love my pet so much, i just don't like sharing saliva with them

I have never had a fly in my drink or food. A piece of hair is the only thing that ever come close to my food. Not at a restaurant but at my friend's house and in my own house. oh..well, since in my house and a friend house, I just got rid of the hair and ate my food.

Wow, that's lucky. I've gotten bugs in my drinks before. The worst is watching a bee fly into a soda. Typically if the drink is in a can, they can't find their way back out. If you don't watch it, you can drink them, then get stung. For someone that's allergic to bees, that's not good.
