When making your own baby food, do you have to use organic?

I have been making my own baby food for a month now, and I dont understand why if peels and skins are removed, it is so important to use organic items. The main reason for making your own baby food is usually cost savings, and it just seems that by using organic you eliminate your cost savings.
What are the advantages to organic baby food?

If you don't eat organic foods, then what you feed your baby at this stage isn't going to matter if he/she will be eating what you eat at a later date.
People like me eat organic whenever possible because the pesticides and herbicides are not limited to peelings and skins, but penetrate into many vegetables and fruits. The flesh of many fruits and vegetables contain as much poison as the skins.
That's why I would feed my baby organic foods but I would continue to feed him/her organically as time went on.

Thanks for the info!!! I didn't know that a high volume of pesticides makes it into the food itself - I just looked it up and was amazed at the information! I will make sure to use organic from now on - for the health benefits, not the cost savings!

I made my own baby food as well and I tried to use organic wherever possible. Sometimes when things were not in season, I would more or less put them off until they were in season and little cheaper to purchase. It is expensive, but if you think of the health benefit to your child, it's so worth it.
I think it's also easier to justify for your child than it is for yourself, and that's where I stand...so I'm trying to figure out ways to start merging our entire family into eating as much organic as possible!

when my daughters were little, i had a little grinder that had made its way through the family and just ground up stuff like carrots and whatnot right from the store. i just washed then, cooked them, ground them up and froze them in ice cube trays. my daughters are now 14 and 18 and seemed to have survived.

I totaly agree that organic is better, so with my children I try to use organic vegetables no matter what age, makes sense. Its not as expensive to buy organic than it did a few years ago. I am a keen gardener as I am a Florist by trade, I grow alot of my own vegetable, and freeze alot of them to keep going through winter. They taste amazing :0) and very very cheap. Even a little patch or box or bag will do the trick :0)
