I have to have gallbladder surgery

I have been very sick for a little over a week now. I had been to two emergency rooms. The one emergency room doctor suspected that my gallbladder was acting up, but the other doctor would not listen to me and said that I only had the stomach flu. The only thing he would give me for pain is bentyl and it is just for stomach cramps. It did not help at all. He ignored me when I told him that another doctor suspected the gallbladder. I went to my primary care doctor the next day and he did an exam then sent me for a HIDA scan on my gallbladder. I was in so much pain during the HIDA scan that I already knew that my doctor was going to say that it needed to come out, but I was hoping I was wrong.
I got the test results yesterday and my gallbladder is barely working. Bile is just sitting inside of it and it does not squeeze much. I was told that I will need surgery and my primary care doctor got me on medicine for nausea and pain. The medicines help me to at least keep food down and make the pain tolerable though I still feel it from my gallbladder all the way to my back. I go on the sixteenth for a surgery consult. I already had the surgeon send the cardiac clearance form to my heart doctor because I am a heart patient. I am hoping that it gets done quickly so I can quit hurting. Right now I can only eat certain foods. I have to take the pain and nausea medicines or the food will come back up so I am sleepy from them. I go on the sixteenth for surgery consultation and tomorrow I get my last iron infusion for anemia.

Hi Lindaharding627, I hope the lab test will be ok so that you can finally go and have your surgery. It must be very uncomfortable for you now. What surgery are you planning to have? Is is laparoscopic cholecystectomy or the open chole? Will it be a walk in kind of operation? Because in my country we have the patient admitted even if its lap chole. Anyways, I do hope for the surgery to be successful and for your full recovery. Because I am still looking forward to future interactions here in mylot. God bless!

hi linda 0h ouch how well I remember my gallbladder attack and the gall stones pain oh my gosh and I tried to work but finally even with pain pills could not take it. I was shelving books in the library and cramping and hurting. So do get the surgery done as soon as you are cleared for your heart. If you are l ucky they can do but my surgeon called bandaid surgery ,its a s mall incision that is held shut be tiny clamps and I was allowed to go back to work in ten days.I hope you get your surgery soon so you will be on the road to recovery and getting well.minus all that horrid pain.
good luck

Don't worry my friend, the gall bladder surgery is nowadays an easy one.
My mother and father in-law had it already, though they are already in their senior years.
My FIL had a bypass many years before that, but it wasn't a bother to him because he was thoroughly checked as to his health conditions before that.
I will say a prayer for you my friend. Just relax when you will finally have it.

Boy oh boy, do I ever remember the pain of gall bladder attacks... I was having them for months, not knowing what it was and I was too stubborn to go to the doctor. I was afraid, with the pain that wraps all the way around the body and makes you feel like you're being squeezed in a steel belt, that it was my heart. I had lost my dad to a heart attack not long before and I think I was just really scared of diagnosis. Finally, it happened that I took my daughter to a movie (she was maybe 4 or 5 at the time) and I started an attack in the theater. I went to the washroom and, as usual, had to remove most of clothes, trying to alleviate the pressure and nausea. We couldn't even leave to go home because I had to drive. We waited hours in that bathroom until I could make the trip home. That attack went non-stop for about 10 hours and I finally drove myself to the emergency room in the middle of the night. The doctor knew immediately what it was and gave me pain killers. He came back to see me in the ER about half an hour to an hour later and I was still in serious pain. He said "those pills didn't help at all did they?" and he gave me a shot in my rear end which thankfully dulled the pain.
In my case, I had gall stones (my dad had his full gall bladder removed). I was told gall bladder surgery is not considered a priority (no matter how much pain I had nor how often the attacks were coming) so I'd have to wait awhile. I was given pain killers I had to carry with me everywhere and the moment I felt an attack starting, I had to take them or else I had no hope of stopping the pain. A couple of times, I forget them when running errands and had to leave my full cart in the aisle of the grocery store, or what have you, and rush home for the meds.
The surgery to remove multiple large stones was a relief beyond words. I hope it will be the same for you! I wish you quick treatment and recovery from the surgery... and lots and lots of pain-free days following it

Gallbladder surgery is a piece of cake. I had mine removed in september i was in and out the same day. I feel so much better since mine is gone I'm not as sick when i eat foods anymore. Some foods still bother me but not as much when I did have my gallbladder. When I had my gallbladder I was sick all the time and severe abdominal pain and back pain it was no fun at all. Good luck with your surgery and hope it goes well so you're not so sick anymore.

Don't worry my husband had his gallbladder and appendix taken out in the same day. It was only a 45 minute surgery. It took a month for his doctor to find out what was wrong with my husband. He would hurt any time he ate or went to the bathroom. We changed his diet and everything. Now that he doesn't have his gallbladder removed it did take a month before he was able to hold our daughter at that time she was 9 months old he did miss a lot of work up to his surgery. He had to stay home for a week and he can't eat red meat that often at all. We eat tones of white meat which is pretty much just chicken and turkey. No grease food at all. So a lot of home cooked meals for us. It won't take too long to heal and especially if they do it with a scope.

my mom also suffered the same thing, August of last year she had a gallbladder operation. she was suffering from pain and nausea and so she decided to go to the doctor and it was diagnosed that she has a problem with her gallbladder and the only way to cure it is to do surgery. thank God the operation was successful and now my mom is doing very well no more pain. god bless and good luck on your surgery :)
