Had To Say Goodbye To Obesity (Overweight)

Weight Loss - Taken last month when I was 249 lbs.

Being at age 32, I had to do something with my life to get the weight down. Prior to my weight loss success I've tried many different methods to get the weight down. I went through dietary supplements like a candy store -- Try this pill or try this powder..Thinking I would be successful just like those advertisements on paper or TV with a "Before & After" result. I was wrong... Around 2008-2009 I weight over 370+ lbs. My major issue was fastfoods (Cheeseburgers, fried chicken, french fries, milkshakes), taco shops (Carne asada fries, California Burritos), sodas (Coca Cola, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew) -- Anything with high sodium and sugar. Anyone can relate because most of these foods taste good when we want them. But this became a habitual habit about almost everyday. Didn't have that motivation, just stuffing my face, wasn't doing anything and remembering leaving under depression. Early 2010 I was introduced to the #24HourFitness. I first started off with machines (Treadmill, Elliptical, Cycles). I remember almost everyday using the elliptical and would force myself to burn over 1,000+ calories incline and high intensity. But the routine became unfit and boring. During that time period I was introduced to Zumba, hated it at first, but then I thought bringing my own modification moves with dub-step and hip hop. I had one of the best Zumba instructors that brought the high energy that helped me lose up to 600 calories or more within the hour. About the end of 2010 was when I was first introduced to #TurboKickBoxing a.k.a TKB. This was a whole new level which helped me lose weight much faster and reach my goals almost on a daily basis. The combination of punches, kicks, knees, burpees, airjacks, stretch workouts and much more knocked off fat and calories. This also made me sweat a lot more than your average Zumba class. It became highly addicting. During the time period of 2011 was when I started doing mountain hikes. My first mountain hike was up in Three Sister's Falls which is far east past San Diego County. Then went through various hiking trails such as Cedar's Creeks, Cowle's Mountain and lately San Penasquitos Trails up northern San Diego county. Around January 2012 I remember stepping on the medical weight scale at home and saw that time I weighed about 265 lbs...I didn't believe it at first, but realized almost a 2 year span I lost over 120-130 lbs. Today I weight 243 lbs and I still continue to do #TurboKickBoxing along with a few Zumba classes, sauna and swimming. I eat healthy now - Plenty of fruits, vegetables, no red meat, but white meat such as Turkey, Chicken or Tuna. I make various smoothies mixed with fruits, ISO whey protein powders, Chex Cereal and various ingredients to get my vitamins and minerals throughout the day. Now to those who battle being overweight or are obese this is something you should definitely look into doing. Natural weight loss is the way to go...there are no shortcuts, ifs or buts about it. You don't have to sit and daydream watching the Biggest Loser...Just do it, get up and say you can do it. If I can do it, so can you.

Depending which part of town you live in I would check to see if they have #TurboKickBoxing (TKB) around your area. If you've done Taebo before then you'll find some slight similarities. Good to hear and hope the best for you in your exercise.

Congrats to you. :) I hope you don't lose your motivation. I lose weight every year till the point it's almost the way I want it and then it just stops. It goes sooo slow and when the winter starts I can't seem to keep it up anymore. Then I gain weight again till I'm back where I started. I just can't seem to keep up my motivation to eat healthy.

Thank you and yes I say to myself everyday I don't plan to stop. Being at my age and seeing people past my age in the gym inspires me to remain in shape and fit. I realize that for people that remain out of shape, not having the proper diet or nutrition in their body while aging in the years can have major symptoms creep up to them in the long run. Here's the problem too why we can't stay motivated - The media, commercials, all these diet pills, the magazines that promote how to lose 10 lbs in a week yada yada yada! It has to come in your part to make it a habit, enjoy it, be it -- Make it like you've learned a new language and adapt to it (Eating right and staying in shape). I will eventually start promoting a program known as BeachBody Fitness. I'll keep you posted.

That's very good to know. Tell me about pants size. I used to be a size 54 now down to a size 40. I had to get rid of my old pants made me look like a clown in them. It feels good to wear fit or tight jeans again.

CONGRATULATIONS!! That is awesome. You are definitely an inspiration. I could definitely use to lose about 40 pounds that have been creeping up over the past 4-5 years or so. It can be very discouraging at times though and it's definitely easy for me to lose faith in myself. It sounds like you know exactly what to do though. Congrats again, I'm glad your hard work paid off... . And welcome to MyLot by the way!

Thanks! I can relate it's definitely not easy breaking habits that creep in when trying to stay fit or eat right. It takes the motivation and the right people in your life to get you where you need to get. I been on Mylot before, years ago, but lost my username and password. Started fresh new and it's good to come back every now and then.

You had to work hard to reduce obesity but thanks to god that you were successful and now you are conscious of it and so taking healthy foods that would maintain good health but would not make you obese again. I hope you will definitely practise the minimum physical exercise required for health, though I think you would never need again those Zumba or similar things.

Yes it is not easy to get motivated to do exercises and such, I am at the moment trying to eat better, not so much junk food and eating more vegies, I am also making sure I have at least one vegetable juice a day... I guess it is just a matter of getting up and doing what we need to do.

I suggest you eat healthy. Before noon, you can eat vegetables, meat, or other healthy food as much as you want. But after noon, you shouldn't eat much. I found not eating supper very efficient way to lose weight. And over time (about 21 days) you won't feel hungry for not eating supper because your body will get used to it.

Nice to know you seem to have won the war on your obesity! I myself have not! I have been overweight most of my life! I became morbidly obese 14 years ago! I am over 300 lbs and will be 50 in May. I know it would not be a bad idea to try and lose some weight. I have some issues with my weight. I have edema in my lower legs. I'm starting to have kness issues. I get winded quicker then I used to. I am an emotional eater. i have tired getting help for it in the past but money was becomeing an issue so I stopped. I try on my own to eat better but it is not easy to teach an old dog new tricks! I need to eat vegs and fruit more. Never been a big eater of those things and hate alot of them! I eat to much fatty food. To much fast food. to much sweets. Sometimes just to much! I am reluctent to exercise. I love to give up easily becasue of my low self=confidence and middle depression! I want to do hypnosis. I keep putting it off or just putting it on the back burner. I probaly try it soon! I feel like I am losing my chance to lose weight! I know it isn't easy and I keep hoping it will be! If i don't do something soon I could end up with diabietes and just become more obese! Nothing seems to motive me! Even your story! Hopefully I will wake up someday and do something about it! Until then I can say I am a hopeless cause!

I know it is hard to lose weight. Randy has Type 2 Diabetes and he is losing weight because we have cut out sweets and sugary pops. He drinks water and diet pop (one can per day in them morning so he can wake up) and we buy the Crystal Light so he can add it to his water (they have no sugars). I know in order to support him I have been cutting back on sweets myself and I am exercising more. Randy has a serious foot condition and is unable to exercise much. He has a foot condition called Charott's foot which is a foot deformity and he will never be able to walk normal again and he cannot work. Now Randy does not have a cast on his foot so he is allowed to swim.

I agree, change of diet and exercise will do you good big time. So happy to hear of your weight loss, I just love weight loss stories. Iknow I should get off my big butt and start walking but I admit to being so depressed that I spend days in bed. Ah well, spring will be ready soon and plus in Nova Scotia the clocks will spring ahead an hour so we'll have longer days, perfect for walking. I always feel more motivated when it's warmer out anyway. Best of luck to you in the rest of your weight loss endeavour.

I'm so happy for you. I'm glad that you were able to start changing your habits and it has really paid off for you. I agree with you it does take effort. So many people look to short cuts because we want things to happen quickly. It really doesn't work that way though. We have to eat right, and exercise. Doing those two things will help us in the long run. I'm glad that you exercise regularly. That is one thing I'm still working on. I need to make sure that I walk everyday. Whether it is going outside or watching a walking video. I know exercise is so good for me.

wow this is a great story..i can relate i have gone from me and my husband only eating out here and there very few and far between to us eating out altleast once every weekend. i really need to lose weight and i seem like i am always moving doing something (which of course is only a lot of walking and/or lifting of things. i dont have the money to pay for all those supplimental things to "help" me lose weight. after reading your story here i realized i dont have to have the money i just need to make time and do diffrent things. i get bored with things very easiley so i have to find a way to do many things that will help me lose weight and still keep it interesting and a little on the fun side....i also feel alone when i do these things by myself i guess it is better with a friend or family member lol but i know i can do it alone. i feel like nothing gets dome for me or my family ne more jsut the other people in my life. when i am at home i dont have the mativation to do the things around the house that need to be done (they get done it just takes a while to do so sometimes. my husband is a sweetheart he tell me i am not fat and i am perfect the way i am but to me i dont c that and i would like to lose weight just so i can feel better about my self and be able to do more things and it not be such a hassle. after i had my 2 kids is when i gained most of weight and now i am thinking it is time to do this and get it off and enjoy the way i look again :) thanx for posting this you are a very insperational :)
