Same clothes over and over again

I am very embarrassed to appear in office sometimes... because I'm wearing the same clothes every week.. I only have 3 pants and 1 or 2 dresses that decent enough to be wore to the office. Well, being a girl, people tend to remember you clothes... imagine appearing in office with the same office attire every week. I plan to buy a new pants... if only I got extra money I can add my wardrobe occasionally. But financially can't afford yet right now. I tried searching the internet for idea to mix and match but then I only got like three shirts and three pants (no skirt)... I have my sister's used clothes but they are all a little bit bigger for me and I have worn them a lot of times already... I wish I know how to sew and that clothes are not too expensive here...

Here in the United States we have something called Dress For Success....this organization gives office wear to underpriviledged women who are either looking for work or have a job and not many clothes to wear to it. If there is an organization like this in your part of the world they may be able to help you. Also, here we have the Salvation Army and Goodwill, places where you can buy clothes second hand. Maybe you have some second hand stores as well in your neck of the woods. Many people look down on buying second hand clothes, but if you are diligent you can find some great and expensive clothing at a fraction of the price.

They may find that they are making euw faces at an empty wallet. As drknlvly says, we find many good values and high quality items in resale shops. Some of them even still have store tags on. People buy things and never wear them, then go out and buy some more.

Yes, when I told and suggest my friends to go to secondhand market to buy clothes they kind of smirk or make 'euw" faces to me... well, I am not like them, they are wearing nice expensive from the top shopping complex... use the latest brand of handphone while me just smile sitting beside them.

hi, i faced the same situation some years back. but you know what. i damn cared for the world. i had financial constraints and that was enough for me. i usually live my life ...i damn care wht people are thinking abt me. if i have clothes , wud love to wear them....and yes..again i wear wht i like not what others expect me to wear. i am sorry if i may sound rude...but my suggestion for you would be to forget wht other people are thinking abt ur clothes....make ur presence felt by the work u do....i m sure people will not even dare say a word abt ur dress....

Yes, luckily for now no one ever talk to me about my clothes... it is just my self concious..

nice to hear from you after one month about the same discussion. you are right when you say it is just your self conciseness . please remember people have no time to think about your dress. they all are so self concious to even see what you are wearing...thanks again.

I have not checked your profile to see where you are, so I am not sure how my advice will go over. I would wear a scarf, or belt with my clothes, and try to find a variety. Someone mentioned wearing a cardigan--that might work or a blazer or other jacket to make things look more formal. If vests are fashionable where you are a good vest can make an outfit look different. Pick quality, even if you pick it out at a thrift shop.

Come to think of it, you are right... My office is so cold that my hands 'freeze' sometimes... wearing a cardign does the cover up job quite good... eventhought at this time I only have 1 cardigan... thank you so much for your comment!

Try to search in market or in some store who offered slightly used clothes. These stores offers cheap prizes compared to a boutique shop. These used clothes are still in fashion and sometimes branded, you just have to washed it clean and sterilized so that you can't have the bacteria it has.

Yes, we do have that kind of store in our place, only it is not a store, more to like a BIG tent where there's a lot of sellers who sell used clothes from ouside the country.. Once, I saw some tourist who went there and shopped for jackets..

that's what I always did, cross match them... but I guess because my clothes don't come in plain color, so people will remember easily..

It can be embarrassing at times but think of it this way, it's your office uniform and if you are okay with wearing the same clothes then what other people say shouldn't matter. Be confident and happy :) You may find some more clothing at the second hand shop or discount retailers.

Hehe.. yes, I wish we have uniform like banks or fast food restaurant, ... they don't have to think about different style every day... but eventhough I am comfortable in what I wear, but I can see other colleagues do have different or new clothes which they purchase every month...

I wear the same few clothes to work, too, and it is noticeable. Unfortunately, I really cannot afford a solution as I don't have fabric to make myself clothes. Have you thought about maybe accumulating money in paypal through this site and others and then buying a few pieces off of eBay?

You could do whay my nieces do. A bit naughty but ....! They go online and get clothes delivered from an online store. Wear them once then send them back! Wrong colour. Wrong size. Wrong material. Whatever! They always seem to have something different on their back.

I'm not suprised the stores are doing that now. My nieces must have cost them a fortune! Little minxes; though I still love them dearly.

Hehehe... that's tricky... but sound fun.. that way they have a whole lot of clothes to wear.. its just like borrowing it from the online store.. i think a lot of online store have policy now whereby once the clothes is sold, it is not refundable.

Do you have any kind of thrift stores or consignment stores around you? You should check it out if you do. That's where I do 99% of my clothes shopping and I find a lot of dress-up clothes there for $5 or less per item, which is an awesome deal considering how expensive clothes normally are. You should check it out. Good luck to you!

Hiya chi, Hang on in there and if there is any Sales coming up where you are you might just be able to take advantage of that. Sales are not always what they should be but you might just find one or two things to keep you going. There was a time when I only had two changes of clothes as well and one skirt and top to go our for the Weekend sometimes. Having a small child did not help either as he was often sick on my Clothes that I had only just put on. So I know how that feels. Hey but don´t give up chi as long as you can vary what you wear. Try getting a couple of cheap tops if you can I say if you can because really I am only guessing as to what you can buy where you are and maybe you can mix and match with them. Biggest bugbear for me are finding Skirts and well fitting Shoes. Never mind surely something will turn up.

Hiya chi, Did you manage to get anything like the odd top or two to be able to swap around with other things? I am still with the tops I bought two years ago but I don´t mind I just swap them around as much as I can and I am having to use everything that I have quite a lot. I walk a Dog you see a lot and he dirties my clothes too when he jumps up me so I have three changes of clothes at the moment to mess around in and one to go out in. Those clothes get washed an awful lot (grin). My boots are taking a real bashing too as we are right out in the Countryside and they are wearing down quite fast. I have to remind myself to be thankful as well sometimes as I can find myself in that mode of feeling sorry for myself a bit and ungrateful. But hey we are all like that most times I bet even the most even tempered person is like that at least once a Day. Was watching a Fashion Show for about ten minutes this morning with all those wonderful clothes they had on but I did not go green with envy at all as they have some really way out price tags chi wow get this a thousand dollars for a mere dress that fits where it touches you and its a dress only to go out in you know one of those kind.xxx Thank you too and take care now.xxx

I suggest you to learn how to mix and match clothes. And also whenever you buy clothes, it's better to buy from the same color family so that you'll give the illusion that you have many clothes. People would be less able to remember your clothes. There are pieces that can camouflage the outfits you usually wear. Accessories also gives different looks for outfits.

I know that I remembered people's clothes and if they wear it over and over though, so maybe if I'm like that, it is not impossible if other people do too... And my girl friends also admit to me that people tend to remember a girl's clothes than a guy's. Well.... I guess I just have to be patience a little bit.
16 Apr 12
i bet it is you being paranoid i bet they dont even notice, if your clothes are clean why does it matter if you have the same clothes and wear them again.

i know how you feel i may not have an office job but sometimes i an embarrassed to even walk out my front door because i wear the same things a lot and i have some clothes that look almost the same because they were comfortable and people mistaken them as the same outfit as the day before. i also do not have the income to buy new clothes for myself but i have started to look around thrift stores and yard sales. this also kind of embarrases me but at the same time u can find some really good looking cheap clothes that would be perfect for your job :) good luck

I know how you feel too... for daily outings, I only have two leggings (because my old jeans doesn't fit anymore) that I also wear over and over again. I won't buy a simple clothes in a shopping complex, I'd rather buy it from the night market where it costs 10 times cheaper... thanks for your comment!

clothes in a "shopping complex" are way to expensive and they do not seem worth it for the quality of the clothes. i mean jeans with a lot of holes in them are still over $20 and that is just pointless to me. i will only buy clothes from a store like that is they are having a really good sale or they are on clerance. i found a pair of pants for $8 last week and they were origenally $25 so that was a nice surprise and was happy to get that :) my only problem with thrift stores is sometimes it is very hard to find clothes that i like so i may look around a lot and not end up getting anything but i am starting to think that a thrift store is my best option and i am going to have to stop being so picky..lol :)

Hii chi2nasrin... Aww, I am sorry. Yeah we girls always keep our look. But doesn't mean we have to use expensive branded. Don't give up, keep trying to mix and match your clothes. Be creative as you can and be yourself . Start to save little by little just for new clothes.

yes, we do... I don't really go for brand.. all my clothes, none are branded... I just hope for a little bit of variety.. I envy one of our staff, where it seems like she changes her wardrobe every month, never once I saw her wearing the same dress thrice.... But then again, she's one of the lawyer so of course she can afford it..

I like to wear the same dresses over and over again because it will give the sweet memories which have appeared while we wearing that dress before... so I like to wear same dresses rather than new dresses.. But new dress will give some energy to us to become more active on that day....

Personally I wouldn't worry about it too much. I only have a few pairs of jeans and jumpers and I wear them all the time to work. Same clothes over and over again. Nobody really notices and if they do, who cares? I'm not worried about what other people think of me. I don't rise to their judgement. I can't afford to buy new clothes, so I wear what I've got.

We have some problem. I have 2 pants 1 skirt and some tops. Lucky me I gt kind boss that allow me to wear anykind of clothes as long as it is decent to wear. Sometimes I mix jeans with shirt (sometimes plus cardigan). May be you can try jeans for work if your boss allow you to.

I doubt that we can wear jeans to work, because I am working in a lawyer firm so you have to wear formal clothings... I wish I can wear skirt but then I don't dare to show my tattooed legs yet since I am not yet a confirm staff there...
