Hen Has Menstruation?

A woman bought some eggs in a supermarket. When she got home and opened one, she found out that the egg white is red like blood. She suspected there was something wrong with the eggs and turned to the salesman in the supermarket.
The salesman said: "It is totally normal. The hen was having menstruation when it laid the egg."

This doesn't sound quite right to me. It sounds like the clerk was just making it up so he wouldn't have to replace the eggs. I think if it were true, we would have a lot more 'red' egg whites.
