Have you ever felt confused after taking your pet to the vet?

The vet said my cat appears to have a bad allergy to something, he asked me some questions and looked at my cat for all of 10 minutes, and then he gave my cat a shot and sent us home, the shot seemed to work a little, but after only 2 days my cat went back to scratching licking, and biting off his fur, also the red irritated eyes are still red so basically my pet still has issues
I felt like the vet just wanted my money and didn't really care about me or my pets suffering, and I feel like I wasted money because my poor kitty is still miserable greedy vets
Sigh! can't afford to keep going back so I'm going to try a natural allergy product for cats. have you ever felt like a vet could have done more or didn't care?

I usually confuse the vet when I visit as there are no exotic animal vets here and we have snakes and lizards here!
It sounds like your cat has an allergy alright. It is possible that it is coming from the diet. What exactly are you feeding as the staple diet? Are you feeding anything else in addition? Is the cat getting any milk?
Did you wash any of the blankets or anything it lies on recently with different detergent? Has there been a new cleaning product or air freshener used recently? Think of anything that might have changed. How long has it been going on?
If it is not diet related, the cat may need to be given regular antihistamines. It sounds like you were fobbed off. My other half's brother's dog had hay fever. He was put on antihistamines and it solved all the problems.

I changed my cats diet at least 3 times in the past 4 to 6 months trying to figure out why he's inching and balding it's been going on for 4 to 6 months my cat has redness in his eyes and he's constantly itching and licking all over himself it's gotten so bad that he now has big round bald patches on his back and stomach
At first I thought it might be ringworm, but he's had this issue for a long time and I haven't caught it, thats why the vet said it must be allergies but I have no clue what he could possibly be allergic to I keep my home fairly clean and he has no fleas because the vet said he didn't really notice any
So I'm left confused and my cats left miserable and my vets left with my money, and now I just don't know what's causing my pets issue.

What exactly is the diet though? Nuts? Pouches? Are the nuts or pouches from a high quality source or are they a supermarket available brand? Any additional treats? Any milk? Any human food?

I tried Natural Balance cat food it's a limited diet brand it's not in regular stores I had to order it and have it shipped
Iams indoor formula
Purina One with cranberry formula it's soy free corn free
Friskies indoor, and another brand
All these cat food brands are top brands but nothing improved and they cost me a lot I can't afford to keep checking brands with no guarantee that they will help
In fact the bald patches and inching has increased.

Yes I have felt this way many times. I have even had a vet tell me my one other cat, who is deceased now, that he would die from kidney failure when it was his time. Guess what? He didn't die from that. He had ulcerative colitis, which he failed to discover, and I only found out by going to another vet after this other vet suddenly retired permanently without sending further notice. I hope the vet can finally give you a diagnosis that helps with your pet and makes him less itchy. I had to get advice from a friend with a cat with the same problems I had with mine, for my cat's itchy sore spots. She gets these sores around her head area that she scratches, and they become red and bleed, so I went and got the hydrocortisone cream and put that on them 1 to 2 X a day after washing it daily with a Q-tip dipped in 1/2 plain vinegar and 1/2 distilled water.

Wow!! Sounds like you did take your Cat to a Vet that really was just after your money without not really taking time to examine your Cat and see what was wrong. It is sad that there are so many Vets and Doctors alike out there that are like this. Why can't they take the time to diagnose something instead of having everyone have to keep on coming back and back and spend making us spend a lot more money and then maybe finding out the cause of the problem.

Yes it's very frustrating dealing with vets sometimes especially vets that think of nothing but lining their own pockets and making their clients keep returning while giving no solid answers to the issues that my pet is suffering from.
Sigh! it's tough but I won't give up, and hopefully I will find an answer to help my kitty, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Me too. But I have never been to a Vet. Just to a doctor, lately. I think, all they go after from us was our money. I hope they would try to love their patients and help them as much as they can, because it is their job. And not prolonging the agony. It's bad for the patient's side.. and for your kitty too.

Yeah it seems like all most vets care about is money I understand that treatment cost money and test cost also, but $500 dollars is seriously crazy why can't they lower there rates a little or offer a payment plan? my goodness I use to dream of becoming a vet because I love animals and I would have never felt right charging that kinda cash just for one test and just taking the cash and turning the pet and owner away everyone's isn't blessed with tons of cash, but there pets are just as important as those wealthy owners pets are
As for my cat he's a fighter and he still seems to be enthusiastic about life so that gives me some hope that he might recover with the aid of some over the counter treatment or supplements I did some research and found some good natural supplements that seem to fit the vets educated opinion, so lets hope the supplements work, if they work I'll post an update.

Yay! Same here! I was wanting to be a Vet too. I love my cats, and I want to treat them by myself if ever they have sickness( 'cause they got sick all the time! And the newly born kittens die easily. :=( ) I really feel sad when I see my cats like that, so I wanted to be a Vet and help people and their loved pets. :=(
But anyways, I'm happy your kitty is doing okay. Hope he/she'll recover fully fast!

Please explain more fully as to what do you mean we should never do what?
Yes it's our duty has pet owners to do whatever we can to make sure our pets stay healthy, but it's also our duty to make sure that we are also able to take care of ourselves also because if we spend all our money on greedy vets we will not be left in a good position to care for anyone, I provide my cat with the best cat food clean water tarter control treats flea meds love, toys and warm bed
He's been with me for 7 years now and I'm grateful that he has felt loved instead of lonely and hungry and scared he has been under the weather lately, but he still doing fair to spite his discomfort I took him to a vet with the hope of finding some answers but instead I was left more confused and with much less cash.

some vets...
I suspect that if I had taken Star to any other vet they would've tried to string us along and do things, which is why I took her to the vet I did - because I knew that Dr. L wouldn't. Dr. L knows I have a lot of cats, and that I will do what I can to help them, but I don't want to help them by prolonging their suffering.
I dealt with one vet who wanted over $300 to cure the dog of heart worms, the other vet said she was too old to use their methods, so I that's when I called up Dr. L and she came up with a treatment - and yes, in the end it did cost about $300, but that including clearing up an infection she had before treating the heart worms - it was only about $150 to do the treatment.
Now, this was in the early 1990's... but still... the dog lived another 5 years after that.

Well you were blessed to find a good vet that fit your budget and understood your situation, but my cats vet wanted 500 to diagnose my cats issues and I just can't afford that at all unless I want to allow my lights to get cut off, so unfortunately I have to continue to treat my cat on my on based on the general diagnosis I received from my the vet and hope for the best
It's really unfair how vets just dismiss customers who don't have a ton of money to throw away sigh! oh well I just have to do my best on my own who knows maybe I'll come across a good over the counter treatment for my poor little 7 year old sweetie I'll update this topic if I find something that works.
Thanks for dropping in and sharing your experience.

Hi friend,
I do not any pet but as medico person I would like to suggest you to get your pet to another vet or revisit the same vet and tell him the problem again as he might have miss diagnosed but after getting new feedback he may be able to treat your pet well.

That's a good suggestion accept I don't have the kind of money it will take to get a second diagnosis it took me two months or so to save up enough to take my cat to the vet in the first place
So all I can do now is research it myself and hope I find the proper over the counter treatment to help my cat improve it's much less expensive that way
There are a lot of natural supplements on the market for pets if you know where to look, so I'll try that first before draining my funds again for another vet visit with no guarantee they will even be able to help my cat without additional expensive test the test, and the necessary test needed to diagnose my cat is around $500 dollars sadly I just don't have that kind of cash unless I don't mind having my lights turned off, so you see I have no choice but to do the best I can for my poor little sweetie, and hope that I find the right treatment on my own within reason and research.
