today i found an interesting question on yahoo answers.it made me sad to see how people are beginning to ruin their lifes just because they want to be cool.a kid was saying that her family is smoking and her friends also so she wants to learn how to smoke,i mean the tehnique of smoking.i believe is just stupid to start doing something that can cause you harm just because everyone around you is doing it,or becuse they make it seem cool on the tv.
i personally don't smoke and no one in my family does.my mother used to smoke but she stoped many years ago-the prove thet if you wish you can stop.
many smokers say that smoking is not doing any harm, and that all that thing about cancer is just negative publicity.
beeing a vet i saw in many cases that even the dogs and cats that live with smokers develop cancer, asthma and other problems.
what do you think?it is normal that our kids start to smoke because it's cool?
and other question.being a non smoker i confront in the public places many times with the inconvenience of breathing other peoples smoke.do you belive it is normal for people like me to smoke without their will.smoking in public should be forbiden.

Although smoking is a personal choice, it shouldn't take away the freedom of those who choose not to smoke to breathe clean air. Whether those smokers choose to believe smoking does endanger their health or not, although there are ample evidences, why take the risk? Must they wait until they are ill enough, then will they try giving up the habit? Especially for those smokers that are with family and loved ones, they have a responsibility to stay healthy and live as long as they can. Don't take take the risk. Don't smoke.

I would rather believe that the mother that you mentioned was just being ignorant. As generally all mothers will want the best for their children. It is hard to believe that any mothers will hurt their children purposely. Education is needed to emphasize good and healthy practices. There are always people who are out of tune with reality. We should try to make them informed. We may be able to save the health of some kids.

i remember visiting someone that has a 3 year child.i was not even able to see the room clearly because of the smoke but the mother was saying that is ok for the kid to make him stronger.in the same time she refused to take him a pet because the fur causes harm.this is responsability for some parents.

Smoking is bad. I'm a smoker and am doing whatever it takes to stop it. I've tried cutting a few sticks a day but I just couldn't. The lung cancer thing isn't just for publicity. It is true, people can get lung cancer because of smoking and I fully know that, and I still can't stop smoking. Obviously, it has a huge impact on me. If you don't wanna smoke, just don't. Don't even get started with it, it will only ruin your life.

Many young people now take smoking as a way to show there cool to other.
But to me, I can not find out the cool from smoking. Those young people, who smokes, are always in a heavy makeup while can do nothing by themselves. Most of them are loser in their real life.
I think to a successful person, their cool can be seen from their hardworking, their focusing on the things and their ability to make a life better for themselves and other ones.
Obama is cool for his ability to run a country not for smoking.
Jobs is cool for his creative work on Apple nor for smoking.
I do not think smoking is a fashion, just some people make you feel that.

you are right.the kids today are not choosing the right models to folow.i believe this is also parents fault because the education given at home gives you some values to follow in life.

i think no-smoking campaign is somehow getting a fair share of success in discouraging young people from smoking. there are rules and policies that ban smoking in public places which can affect the non-smokers.the ban should be continued and expanded to other areas. more campaigns should be funded by the government to dissuade young people to smoke.

the succes of the campains are depending a lot by the family education.as long as the parents are encouraging the habit the chances are very low.

My father is smoking, my mother is not, and i've tried smoking when i was a still a kid... my family didn't have any rules about not to smoke, i just didn't find the joy of smoking... that's why i never smoke again. I see that some kid intentionally smoke just because their parent told them not to smoke. I think every teen have a tendency to tried everything that their parent told them not to do, and smoking is one of them. I think it's normal for a kid tried to smoke, they tried everything new to them, and as a parent, we should be able to told them that it's not healthy but we should find a way to say it to them without being mad at them, because when teen get upset by their parents, they tend to do exactly what they're told not to do.
Rules can be applied only if majority of people agree to it, so if most people in your country didn't smoke then you can have the rules not to smoke in public. In my country where most people smoke, even there's already a rule that ban smoking in public, the rule is still not working... it's because majority of people and law enforcement are smoker.

My friend and i have had this discussion on smoking. i don't smoke and she is trying to quit. She thinks smokers no longer have rights and should be allowed to smoke where they want. i told her that smoking is a smokers right but when it involves others they are infringing on the other persons life. I don't want to get cancer just because someone around me chooses to smoke and blows the smoke in the air. If you choose to die or get lung disease go some place and do it alone. Don't take me with you. As far as children they learn what they live. That child saw smoking in their family and they just think its normal. When you are young you don't think of all the risks to your body or to others.

i also have friends that smoke and they say that they feel discriminated.but i belive is exactly in the other way.they are not banned by laws to smoke in public and the non smokers have to take the risck of getting cancer because of them.i saw people that smoke and simply throw the smoke to their children.this people are not thinking or they simply choose to denie the true because they are afraid of smoking effects in reallity.

I won't do it because everyone do it? That is not my style. I think school and public, especially television should educate our younger generation about the danger of it smoking in related to your personal health. If they still choose to smoke, that is their choice, I think somehow it is lack of such education, then let them choose whether to smoke or not as a free will.

Do not smoke. I find it silly. There is nothing extraordinary in this. First is money. Many complain that they have not to eat and smoke two packs a day. Second is that many times, smoke damage relationships with others (family or partner). Many say they smoke to relax to live in conditions of stress. But there are other methods more useful and free. To me a friend is a form of relaxation absolutely free. It's hard to believe that everyone living there even such a person. Really, I can not understand that. There are plenty of reasons that can justify their gesture. But no reason to be deeply rational.

I think this is already know for at least 40 years or longer. So nothing new. People do all sorth of things to belong to the cattle or group, to get accepted.
That is, according to me sad. Plus the fact that everybody claims honesty is the most important thing but if it comes to, those who are honest are not accepted, called rude, cruel, mean or even worse. Work on your self esteem, don't hide behind others, stand for what you are and accept the fact you can't please everyone. The most important thing is you please yourself, you accept yourself, you can be proud on yourself for what/whom you are.

i agree with you.each time i say to my friends what i believe about this smoking and drinking just for beeing cool they say i am old fasioned or rude.what is more disturbing for me is that people smoking in public places affects my health to.it is sad that thay harm themselves but i believe is more sad that people around are affected.the saddest thing is that i believe this kid who asked the question was not even 18 yet.

It's definitely normal to want to be cool, but smoking is definitely not cool. Not only am I strongly against it, but in my community, smoking is one of the things that people really don't like. Sure, people still do it, but nonsmokers will keep away from the stinky, smelly smokers. Although banning smoking in public isn't a viable solution, nobody, especially kids, should be thinking that it is cool to smoke.
