visit and the visitors

According to you if i am a visitor to a site say, i visit the site and view 3 pages then the count would be- visit=3 and visitor=1. BUt what about the page views then? Visit equal to page-views? How? Also what about the unique visit? Can you elaborate about these terms as all getting mixed-up Thanks for your valuable response.

Peavey thanks for making me understood these things. As i am little confused but slowly by reading and understanding i am getting few things. Definition of pageviews is clear that i can coounter every time any one visit that page either by refreshing or other means it will count each seperately with value of 1 pageview for every time one get in the page. now unique pageview is the pageview that is visited first time by a user and that cookies will tell that user is new. Cookies will determine each time the user is new or not. Similarly the session which also set by help of cookies determine the session of the user to user the web. I mean a particular session is what when a user open the web browser and start surfing. He then stop and close the browser or if connection is lost or something like that which make server and the web browser to lose contact will end that session. Hence even a user just vsited the page of a site say 'xxx.com/abc' and closed the web browser, when he he reopen the it and visit 'xxx.com/abc' again then there will be 2 unique pageviews. Also there are some websites which set cookies for a time interval to make the session. I mean for certain periods say 30 min, 40 min, 1 hour, 2 hour would be the set time after which a new session started. Now terming all these i belived that Visit i what when a user goto the site and for each session he count one visit while vistor remain same as he is the user who previously visted it so no increment in no of visitor while visit get increment for each session. All these are determined by cookies. So if cookies is clear all time new visit and new visitor. There are many things that need to know which make one a good webmaster.
