One of the most important reasons (atleast on the outside) for violence in the present world scenario is religion. It might be because of a lack of proper understanding, or communication or realisation or...! But the roots lie in religion. I wonder if the oil resources which are currently available in the West were to be made available from the east, say India, Malaysia etc, would the West launch a similar find-a-fault-and-attack approach on these places too ? In trying to corner Taliban, it has now become a hydra headed affair springing up in every corner of the world. If, IF, the very concept of religion be wiped out... will the world find peace ?

If you look back through the wars in history most of them have been started because of disagreements about religion, so this isn't anything new. I don't think we will have peace until everyone can understand that the only group we need to belong to is the human race. If we all remembered this and showed love and respect for each other then peace could be the result.

Well said! I do not think that religion itself (as in seeking to know the Almighty, Supreme one) is the problem. I think the problem is with ignorant religious extremists, who are out to interpret religious texts to suit their agendas.
