I learned this week that I don't like it boiled. Usually I steam it and it is really good that way even when some is warmed by putting it in with some other vegetable(canned) when it is heated on the stove. This week I had gotten extra broccoli because it was on sale and there was too much to fit in my steamer when I normally steam it on Sunday evening. So I thought I would boil it and have it as another vegetable with my dinner the first three days(Mon. - Wed.) of the week as my second vegetable. Well it just wasn't as good and even had a smell I didn't like. So it will only be steaming for me in the future.

I don't like to boil my broccoli too, just like you I rather had it steam than boiling it. I remember before I boiled my broccoli for a try and I wasn't able to eat them all I put the left over on ziplock and put them on fridge the next day it was smeelllyy ewww hahahaha..after that I never boil broccoli

You can blanch the flowerettes of it in order to soften them if you don't want them boiled. I have an idea, why not devise the dish into something more delicious other than just steam it so that you can enjoy it more? Saute the broccoli flowerettes along with chopped garlic, sliced onions and tomatoes into a wok with heated oil and add the beaten egg, toss them to evenly cook the eggs while at the same time drop some seasoning on the flowerettes.

I think boiling overcooks it and brings out a nasty "cabbage" smell. I've found that even cabbage doesn't smell or taste like that if it isn't overcooked. I cook broccoli in water but only for a few minutes and take it off the heat while it's still bright green. Once it's turned colors it isn't nearly as good.

I like to steam most of my veggies. I steam broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, zuchinni, to name a few. And I like my veggies al dente. I hate to overcook them and I´m very sure that overcooking was the reason I did not like them when I was a child. Once a very close friend came starving when I was about to eat something. I offered her broccoli and she put the "I don´t like that" face. I placed the broccoli at the center of the table among other cooked veggies and she was amazed at the colour. It seemed that at her home it was so overcooked that it turned gray and bland. Not yummy at all!

Thanks for the info about boiling broccoli and storing it in a fridge which results into bad smell. I haven't tried steaming broccoli, I usually used it in making pork broccoli in oyster sauce. Even I placed the left-over in the fridge, it doesn't smell stingy and tastes the same as freshly cooked...lols
