Google Ranking?

I was on another board today and was reading about having a google ranking for a your forum or blog. I've never heard of this, and so I tried to do what the instructions said when I typed "google ranking" in the google search engine, but I just ended up getting frustrated! Has anyone heard of this? Have they done it? Was it hard to set up?
