I want to share little secret from my chilhood (and still now) that Im afraid of being inject. Few weeks ago I went to dentist for root canal and I was sweated alot cos the dentist gave 3 injection on my gum. And in next few weeks I will back to dentist for scaling, I wish it doesnt need an injection :D
When the doctor asked me to be relax, I can't cos Im thinking about the needle that stick into my skin, I can feel it in my flesh.

I am afraid of it too and to be honest I am scared of doctor and medics too. Dont know why?
Like you I was injected in my gum and it was so painful. But funny thing is after being injected there was no sense in my mouth and I did not even feel when the doctor pulled my tooth out.

Yes, no sense on my mouth :D
I was like: I can bite my lips till it bleed and I won't even feel the pain, kind of cool!

Crumbs! I hate to go to your denist thats for sure...lol I am not making it any better am I? poor you. My daughter hates needles also they have to give her chill out gas to keep her calm and relaxed. Think of it as more uncomfortable than pain. I know big huge men that are really affraid of the denist or any form of needles, so your fear is not uncommon at all! Ask your denist for a sticker next time because you deserve a nice reward for being a good patient :) Good luck on your next appointment

Use the power of music. If possible, use earphones and play something you like to distract yourself during the injection. If the dentist doesn't think it's a good idea to use earphones during your visit, play a nice tune in your head. This can work because the human brain isn't all that bright. Distracting the brain with other inputs like sound can make it pay less attention to things like pain.

I had the same problem as a kid. And then someone told me that I shouldn't look at the needle, and that I wouldn't even know that I was poked. Well, must say that's kind of worked. If I was able to concentrate on something else, and doctor or nurse were good in their job, it went quite well.
Now, it seems to me that's normal human reaction, part of our genetic code, that we are afraid of any strange object that entering our body. It's a fight between our minds and our subconsciousness, and kids have much stronger subconsciousness than adults, so that might explain fear.

I have only a few fears in life and one them is going to the dentist. It has probably something to do with a bad tooth extraction when I was a kid. Combine this with a fear of needles (I think it's called trypanophobia) and you can imagine how uneasy I am even before I sit on the dental chair. I can handle the pain of the needle. It's just that my fear of it somehow multiply the pain I feel. But it's a necessary thing and I just have to bear the pain and control my fear :)

I also scared to injection in childhood. I had cried each time I got injected at clinic. Now when I remember that, I laugh on myself.... Now I can understand that injection is a medicine to cure my decease and make me feel good. I don't afraid to get injected now. But, I never got injection on my gum yet so I don't know how is it. I wish you get well soon!!
