Just to make you laugh this evening.
I had a catologe through the post today called Fifty Plus, I'm almost 49, nothing wrong with that and didn't mind that it was sent to me, what I did mind was that I'm unable to order anything from it!!! Reason being the clothes come in sizes 12 to 32 English sizes..... and I'm only a size 8!
With the way fashion goes these days and anyone can wear any fashion etc, it would be nice to see and perhaps buy some clothes that are age related! But not form that catologe.
Do you find clothes catologs like this annoying?

Somewhat annoying because they always have something in them I would like to own. I get Roaman's and i like it. I also like to watch HSN and QVC on cable. Lots of casual clothes. Hot in Hollywood just has their line on lastnight. Pretty blouses and new stretchy jeans in pretty Springy colors.

QVC love that station and in england we have Ideal home,
I've yet to wear my new jeans I brought the other week, the old ones are so nice and comfty, plus if I wear them to work I'll mess them up while washing floors etc.
Some other catologes do start at size 8 and 10, but not that many.. perhaps I had better try the teenage section!!LOL

The plus catalogs usually start at 12. You should try the average size ones.

I never order clothes from a catalog unless it's t-shirts in medium or large, other than that, I never order clothes from catalogs.

I wish I had your problem. I really like the clothes for younger people, but I am way too large. In the US we have Misses sizes, Petites, Juniors, and Women's. I find that I fit right in between Misses and Women's. Misses is often too small, and Women's is too big. Honestly I am not built like a Fifty Plus.

I agree. I had an awful time getting proper clothes for my kids, even more so when they were teens. I would try to find dress pants for my son, and the stores, even the high end stores just laughed at me. He is thirty five now, and I ordered him some pants in a style he liked from an online store. It took them six months to seven months to deliver them. I can remember taking my daughter shopping for a bathing suit at the mall when she was a young teen. She tried on eleven swim suits before she found one that fit. It did not help that she was pretty modest as well.

When I used to look at the Sears catalogue, it always seemed that any clothes I liked usually started a size or two larger than would fit me. I pretty much have to try everything on to see if it fits.

What are English sizes? Like American sizes? LOL I guess I don't really know. That cataloge might suit me - depending on the style of it that is. I haven't really been sent too many clothes cataloges, the only ones I've been sent are from Victoria's Secret. I have a credit card with them (don't worry, I am not carrying a balance on there thankfully LOL) - but they send me a catalog EVERY SINGLE MONTH. I end up looking through them, but I detest the idea of paying $50 for a bra. And some of their clothes are cute (although overpriced), but I would never bother with buying their clothes because you can't try them on (they only sell them online and by catalog) and there is such a huge risk involved with buying a piece of clothing you can't try on. Who knows what it will look or fit like. *shrugs*. You would think they would stop sending me so many darn catalogs considering I have NEVER bought anything from them, EVER, since being a credit card holder and since I started receiving them (like TWO years ago!). Ha ha. Oh well. Sometimes they can be fun to look through.

Maezze.... some catologes are very costly, its nice to look to get ideas to take ot the shops. $50 for a bra!! Omg. But they are fun to look at and for the children to cut up.
Ricki.... I don't pay much for a bra either, in fact my bust has got so small now if my t shirt is baggy I can get away without wearing a bra

Don't those "supplement" catalogues tend to cater for people that have issues with the limited range of "normal" sizes you'd find on the high street? If you're tall or small or big,you can be looking a long time for something you'd want to wear in a regular shop..My Brother's wife in the US can shop in the kids department,She's so petite..

I'm thinking of trying some teenagers jeans, I'm not worried about the lenght as I want ot cut them down and make some summer shorts as I couldn't find any shorts that I liked last year. Be very cheap as well.
I find the supplememnts give you a taste of a varity to get you to send for the whole big catologe

It sounds to me they presumed your size by your age. Maybe Im wrong. I do hate when i see something so cute but it doesn't fit, either in a catalogue or out shopping. There are some very cute clothes that I can't wear either for it being too small or too big.

i will admit that most of us over 50 has trouble , more then ever before, of keeping our weight down. but they shouldnt assume all older ladies are larger thats just dumb of them.

I also like a catologe that stats on the front what sizes there is in it.
As this one did and I knew there would be nothing to fit me in it I just threw it away without opening it, well did shredd the paperwork that came with it.
I did have a catologe weeks ago that had no sizes on the front, sat down for a very good read or look, found clothes that I like and then looked at the sizes and they all started at a 12. So I was pleased in a way about this one as it saved me looking at it and then being sad as I couldn't buy from it.
I wonder where they got my name/address from as its not one I asked for

I remember I once ordered a pair of shoes with my viza card and the shoes were cheap , the shoes started to tear apart at the first day I used them. So , make sure the clothes are strong and of good quality , hey , maybe if they are bad quality , those will shrink after being in the wash machine , so it's good for you.
About the size , I think you could still pick up the phone and ask them if they got something for your size. Maybe they have some small clothes in the storage as leftovers ? If they don't , you can still order it and then take it to the dressmaker or to the tailor and ask to make the clothes smaller. It will cost you money though. But you will be able to wear the clothes you wanted.

I think the catalogue was meant to target the English Women and it just happened that women above 50 were in that range of size. I think you can contact the manufacturers if you find something that you like to buy and there is no available size.

Yeah, I found catalog that sells cute shoes but the size is 38-39 (Indonesia size), SO, I can't buy it because my feet size is 37. And feet with 37 size is no hard to find the shoes in that size. But, this catalog not sell it in my size. In other hand common Indonesian size for feet is 38-40. Very annoying...,

I went into one of those Plus Sized places once looking for what we call a "big shirt" and I was at that time a size 10 and they wanted to chase me out with a stick (figuratively speaking) -- seriously, the Plus Sized clerk was really rude. She looked me up and down and said I was in the wrong store. I was looking for size 15, which they carried, but they were too expensive anyway. I went into a different Plus Size store and ended up buying several items.
I am way over 50 but still have and wear and like those clothes.

hiAnne and for us that are really big why do they assume we are at l;east five ten to six feet tall? I am big yes but short five foot
two inches eyes of blue green lol.so I try on dresses that look like evening gowns on me, slacks that are five inches too long, skirts the same way. sure it fits my body width wise but not length I look like a fat kid trying to wear moms dresses not an elderly lady swimming in garments meant for a woman six foot tall.

Anne,I am morbidly obese. I have to buy clothes in the plus sizes! I will be 50 in May,too! It is not fun shopping at my size! Sometimes I order out of magazines to buy some of the clothes I can't find in the stores! I never liked to shop and being this size makes it even worse!

But I bet you are a happy person.
I have always hated clothes shopping, its great now the children are older as I just give them a list in the shop and they go and choose and I then tell them what I will buy, regarding prices. I can only cope with one shop at a time so we do one big shop one clothes shop and then the next clothes shop we go to another shop!!!

I find the name of the catalog to be somewhat offensive, but I don't think that a catalog that features plus sized clothes is a bad thing at all because there are a lot of women in the world today that do need to wear plus sized clothes. However, those women are not all older women.
As a woman that wears plus sized clothes, I know that there are women of all different ages that are plus sized.

No, I can't stand buying clothes from catalog, I had a bad experience one time a few years back, where I found this nice bathing suit that really caught my eye, at the time I was a size 10 (english size), when I got the swim suit, first the material was horrendous and it looked and fitted like almost a size 12 or even 14. I was so disappointed, luckily I was able to return it with a full refund, but that was the last time I ever ordered anything through a catalog. I do however sometimes order things online, like store such as Macys, JcPenny, Kohl's because their return policy is convenient and I could just return it at the store instead of having to ship it back.

Clothes catalog could be annoying especially when they contain clothes that are not quite what you like or that are not your style
