If it is a good friend, than you can tell things to them that you wouldn't tell your siblings because a friend can be trusted more & more sympathetic, because siblings are too busy trying to get attention/affection from their parents, so there's a competition thing going on there in the background. Friends only compete with each other if there's a 3rd person. But a one on one friendship is a trusting, intimate relationship, where one can tell private thoughts, feelings & doings to their friend. It's true. I've had all that what I mentioned.
