I came across the net and found a website that talks about the power of learning while sleeping. So is this true that the mind really learning(the subconscious mind)or working while we are at sleep. Is anybody have tried this trick? is it not dangerous because we let our subconscious mind work while we are at sleep.

Learning why sleeping? My goodness that would be tiring! My purpose when I sleep is to rest my body, soul and spirit. But how could I do that if I would be learning while sleeping. I think I would prefer to do the learning while awake and after that I need a break so spare my sleeping time please. I can't spend it for learning. I want it spend just for resting and revitalizing my exhausted mind and body.

I think this is as old as the way to Rome.. it's what they did do in the army, Russia, etc etc.. it's also what we call: imprent. If you hear the message while sleeping, it will store in your memory (no matter if you like it or not). As a teenager I put my lessonbook under my pillow (I don't think it works that way but I had great notes anyway) to "absorb"/learn my lessons that way.

I've tried this several times and at no time has it ever been successful. I've tried for a week and even two weeks with no indication that there was something different about my perception of the subject at hand.

I have heard of this technique but have never personally tried it so I would not speak from personal experience. I have known a few people that say it works, like hypnoses.

I have heard this before. Putting on tapes before bed of something you want to learn. I don't know. I would try it and see. The subconcious mind is very strong. A huge portion of our brains are not used. Let's figure out why and how to utilize it.

I'll occasionally put on an audio book or something similar when I'm trying to sleep. I think it's nice to go to sleep by, but I never actually learn anything that way. Often I don't even remember anything past where I started it! If it works at all, it's by hearing the same thing over and over and over and over again while you're falling asleep, not while you're actually asleep.

It's funny because I usually love listening to music before I sleep, or as I am sleeping, and then I go to sleep with that song stuck in my head. Usually the songs I listen to play a big part in my dreams.

I have heard of this for many years, I don't know how well it works, but as long as you know exactly what you are listening to I don't think it could be dangerous. It's much worse to go to sleep with the TV on.

I have heard of this many times but I do not have personal experience. I would think that it would work. Perhaps one day I will try it. At the moment I cannot because I have to be aware if the twins wake up. It would be interesting to find out other peoples reactions/responses to this.

I have heard that this does work but I am not sure if it really does. If it does I would see if would help me lose weight and get over my confidence problem! I have problems doing it during the day maybe trying it at night would work!

Maybe that is true to other people, but for me i don't think i will try it. I am so tired mentally after office and i am looking forward at the end of the day to get home and have a good sleep. When i have dreams while asleep I could not remember them. So i think this technique is learned and effective with other people.

Well, that would be more subliminal the learning. I believe that people can be effected by subliminal messages. And if those subliminal messages are positive one, the person will be positive. Or they could damage someone also. It all depends on the messages and or lessons.

yes i remember my secondary school teacher told me about it ,we were told to read or refer books we have to study at the time before we sleep and after we wake up we just have to think or try to remember the thing we have learns .

I've heard during high school that there's tapes that you'd play as you go to bed & then fall asleep & you'd hear the content in your sleep & your sub concious would remember it for the next day, for a test. I've never did it. Sleep replenishes the mind & dreams inspire people. Perhaps we can learn from our dreams if they're important enough. I've actually tried to control my dreams before I went to bed one time & during a dream, I actually realized I was dreaming & tried to control my destiny during it & it worked! So, perhaps it is possible to learn during sleep, in my experience.

Haven't tried this before and I probably won't. I want my sleep to be a time to rest and if I'm lazy about studying then I get what I deserve.

Hi john, I have not heard this before so I searched in net and find out that it is ‘impractical and probably impossible’. According to researchers the learning in wake up time is good and the learning in sleeping time wont recalled later. After all the sleeping time is the resting time for the body as well as the mind. So a deep sleep is necessary to our brain function properly after the sleep. So I felt a sound sleep is good rather than trying to learn something while sleeping.

I have never tried it because I think it would seriously upset my system both mentally and physically. It would interrupt dreaming, the REM phase of sleep in which our mind purges all the confusion, fear, happiness and worries of the day and in our past. Without dreaming people become psychotic and very, very sick both physically and mentally. I think sleep learning is just another shortcut--people are naturally lazy, people are naturally impatient and nowadays people want whatever they want right now and with as little effort as possible. I think that's why sleep learning is becoming prominent again.

according to this wikipedia link its not effective. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep-learning my guess would be that the only way it could work is if it actually disturbed your sleep, so that would make you tired. also during sleep our subconscious brain does do work, it organises our mind, through dreams, and you wouldn't want to miss out on that important process. but we do, in some ways learn while asleep anyway, there are many things i have tried to learn before i went to sleep, that when i woke up have made more sense.
