Managing email accounts -- deleting mails improperly

I have yahoo mail id as main account because that was started long back say 10 years back. I also have gmail account. Only a few mails are received in gmail account. Mylot account is also linked to yahoo account and I get a lot of mails in it and for managing them I have separate folders -- mylot, ..etc. I transfer the mails to those folders and then attend them whenever I get time. At times a problem arises -- While deleting files I wrongly click the button on top and that includes all the 200 mails in that page and they get deleted. It has happened for me two or three times. I realised about this mistake only when i started searching for some important mails. I suggest mylot users to be careful in handling the delete button -common button on top or at the bottom so that wanted mails are not deleted. What is your experience in handling email accounts?

With a bit of luck, your mails are in the trash folder if you've not emptied it yet, and from there "undelete" them and have a chance to read. I don't even bother with that, I simply don't like at all webmails and always use POP access to use Outlook on my computer, much better that using a browser.

What is that POP access ? I am not familiar with it. Bunch of mails got deleted a few days back. Luckily not very difficult to get second copy for those mails wherever required.

POP stands for Post Office Protocol. If you have Outlook or Outlook Express, it's a POP access software. This software enables us to download the mail from the server and stores in our PC. We can read the mails whenever we want, even offline.

venkatarman - thank for the info. somehow I have not been having outlook express. I thought my email accounts are more permanent than outlook express through the present ISP.

I use my yahoo email account for my personal ones, and that includes mylot, since at the office we have our own network , hence own email address. So in that way, i know what are those for the office concerns and for the personal concerns.

For all of the mail that I think that I am going to actually read, I have those come into an email account that is owned by our internet service provider. I've had the same email account since the first time that we had a cable modem, so for just over ten years now. For the offers that I do online for various earnings sites, I have separate email accounts where I will generally delete all of the junk mail.

dorannmwin this idea of having separate email ids for different activities sounds nice. If we have only one id that may cause problems like deletion etc. sorry for posting my reply delayedly.

Well thats the same story with me. As i started using internet 12 years ago in the year 2000. I started with yahoo too, though i lost my first yahoo account and now this one is my second account but this also is very old. I have also made a folder for mylot in my mail account . When ever i receive any mail from my lot, l read it move it too that folder and i have made that habit now.

jagjit - that is good. you are able to transfer to folders and manage them well. you have to be careful in seeing that no important mail is deleted.

Well, sometimes I have deleted emails I don't wanted to. I think this has happened to everybody. But you can recover those emails from the Junk or Trash folder. I don't know whether it works for you, but you could try it.

I have a yahoo, hotmail and gmail account. I hardly use my yahoo account anymore and most of the emails there are from yahoo groups. My hotmail id is for more official mails and it is the id I give only to select people. My gmail id is for mylot and all my friends which I check often. I have hardly been able to check my emails this past one month and now there are hundreds of emails that need to be read and answered to. I have today started downloading these messages on Microsoft Outlook on my computer so that I can read them whenever I have the time without being online. Just hope I manage to clear the maximum this weekend.

mayka: I normally do not keep any of mails unopened. I open them on the same day, act, or delete.i am not using microsoft outlook. I am of the view document sare safe in our mail accounts than in outlook account because we may change the ISP.

I have a different e-mail id to control and manage the e-mail. Sometime i delete the useless e-mail that i received from unknown person. Hmm, terrible. Don't share your e-mail id please and better hide it.
