Hi! today I was busy responding to discussions that I forgot the I have something in the stove at is boiling. Well it does happen a lot. I will be too caught up chatting in yahoo messenger that I will forgot that I am boiling eggs for example, that's how addicted I am to chatting. And today it is official, I am addicted to mylot too. Hahaha!!! This a potential fire hazard but I cant help it. I would have to avoid the kitchen if I am online. Does it ever happen to you? I'd like to know if I am the only one experiencing this. Thanks!

hi there,
yes it is dangerous to leave the stove on for a very long time especially if there is something cooking. and yeah i think that is a great idea to avoid the kitchen or not think about cooking before going on to the computer. i remember, it was a very long time ago, i was still in high school. i was on the phone with my friend, and we were having a good conversation. then all of a sudden she said "can you smell that?" and i said "smell what?" and then she said she will just call me again because the rice she was cooking on the stove, (yes on the stove and not the rice cooker heehehe) was already burning heheh. it was funny though.

Hehe! I should thank the inventor of rice cooker. I did that a lot in the past. Cook rice in the rice cooker and do my stuff in the net.

Well that's natural if you are doing two things at the same time. It's either you make good in chatting and forget your cooking or vice versa.
I had times like that, because i forgot that i was trying to soften the meat, as i was also watching TV. Thus, when i remembered what i was doing, the water of the meat was almost dry!

I did forget a pot of beans that I was boiling to make chili one time. By the time I rescued my beans they were already burned. I had to make another dish after that because I definitely couldn't use those beans! I also invested in a whistling kettle. One time my mom and I forgot that we had put the kettle on the stove and it was fortunate that our house didn't burn down because the kettle was already black when we got to the kitchen. These days I am a little vigilant when it comes to leaving the stove on because it is the summer season here in my country and it is very hot especially during noon.

I think we should be very vigilant when it comes to cooking. Because it can only take minutes to burn a house and months to years to build it.

There have been a number of times when I too like so many others have been chatting and have forgotten that I was preparing something on the stove.
One way that I've kept myself from burning anything, recently, I take the computer into the kitchen with me. Well, it does help that I have a laptop, which makes it a little easier and with wireless connection to the internet I can stay well connected.
If you have the ability to do so, maybe looking into getting a laptop would be a good idea.

Good for you. yes having your laptop in the kitchen is a great idea but is a dangerous one too. Your laptop might get wet or worst you might get electrocuted.

Well I don't cook because I could manage to to burn cereal somehow. But I do think that cooking is really not something that you would really want to multi task for. Multitasking is something that can allow you to really get a lot of things done more or less, but cooking is one of the things that really you should keep your absolute full attention on no matter what. Other than driving on the road, that is just something that you should remain alert.
I've heard so many tales of people setting their house on fire because they were busy online or watching television or doing something else. It is very easy to get caught up in such things. In fact, it is almost too easy to say the very least. Preparing a meal does seem like something that requires the absolute full attention, with no other things around. Even talking on the phone for too long and getting caught up in your conversation could be a catastrophe.

Exactly why I don't multitask while cooking, I know it could happen! I have to putter around the kitchen while I'm making something and not wander off and get distracted, because my husband and my daughter, even my cat can be really distracting! Let alone the internet, which has always been distracting!

You have more to worry. As for me I have only the internet and work for now so I think I can manage. I think setting time can be the solution if I am just boing or heating things up.

I am sure you are far from the only one that will get so engroused here in myLot that they forget about other things that they are supposed to be doing. There have been times on my days off I get so engroused here with my posting that I have put food on to cook and forget about it, or even forget to eat sometimes. It is then I have to remember to prioritize things and do what is Best for me.

Years ago I would visit with my friends outside, on my porch, and forget I was cooking until the smoke detector sounded its alarm. Now, when I am on the computer and cooking, I set a time to go off to remind me to do the things I need to to finish the meal.

Hi!
When am mylotting and simultaneously doing something else, I use alarm of my mobile phone to remind myself about attending the other job in hand.
I get completely engrossed in mylotting that I forget everything around me, therefore, use of alarm is mandatory for me ...... Lol!

It's not new to me, especially while I'm here in Mylot. A lot of times I forget that I am in the middle of something or about to do something when I get so caught in discussions here. I think it could be dangerous however, in your case to leave something cook and forget all about it. You are right, better to avoid either the kitchen or the computer when you are about to do either.

That happens to me too sometimes. My mom gets angry whenever I forget my cooking so I don't do that anymore. I make sure I am not using the compute when I m cooking.

We do get caught up in the net sometimes that we forget we're doing something else. I think this has happened to a lot of us here, sometimes even if we are aware that we're cooking, for example, we lose track of time when we're surfing or chatting. We think we're on for only about 5 minutes but in reality it's 30 minutes already. And then we our food gets burnt. I guess one way to avoid these things is to do first what needs to be done before we sit down and use our computer.

A sudden lapse of memory could sometimes cause problems, but being demented is a bigger problem, lol! Being preoccupied with something you really like makes one forget simple things and hoping time would stand still to enjoy that moment. I have had my traumatic experiences similar to yours, learned from it and just having more caution in the hopes of avoiding such incidents.

Hahaha! Your story is so funny, your trying to multitask but don't do it while cooking because its too dangerous. You can do some stuff while chatting but not while cooking.

Yes it is funny as long as the food I am cooking does not get burned then it will become a hassle. Well I am used to multitasking at work and as it happens I bought that at home too. I have to be careful next. It usually happens when I am having too much fun or too engross to whatever I am doing.
