There are machines in lots of price classes, it depends on what you are looking for. If you are just starting out you can get a good basic machine at about $100 or get a good occaison for even less. When you want to handle thicker and harder to handle fabrics, you need a heavier and more expensive machine. You can put as much money in to it as you like, but when starting out I would suggest a good occaison (second hand tested machine).

2nd hand machine... it hard to get here. Even if I can find one it might be 10 years old with most of the part is missing or spoiled already.

i dont know what kind of shops you have in tour area but i would go look for a dealer that specilizes in sewing machines , we have one her and a few timkes a year they get the all metal school models , the kind they use for home economics here ... the comapny charges 500.00 usd for them if you order thru the comany, but these places can get them very cheap i bought mione for only 100$ and its the same one , a bit of advice DONT get plastic !! and look for one with a drop in bobbin case they are easier to use and learn on ;) if you go to www.singer.com or maybe its www.singersewing.com they may have somithing in your country i would even go directly thru the company, the things you really meed to look for in a machine is wether it can hold up to lil fingers playing with it ( I have 4 kids myself and this sewing machine has lived thru them so far LOL ) and also look for a machine that has NUMBERS on the tension dial not just the lil line that goes from big to lil , my machine does best with it set between 4 and 5 lol i know this seems silly but trust me untill you learn to control the tension on your sewing machoine the only tension you will be adjusting is your own LOL and most likely it will be getting WORSE :P hope this helps feel free to ask more ?s if ya need me ;) ~M~

Totally depends on what you need it to do. Introductory sewing machines with only a couple stitch options & no bells & whistles will only run you $150 or so. Then there's the embroidery-enabled machines with literally hundreds of different types of stitches & all sorts of cool features that are in excess of $1,000. You'll get the best prices online for Singer sewing machines at www.SewSpecialFabrics.com.
