What if Di Matteo keeps winning matches?

What if Roberto Di Matteo wins all or most of Chelsea's remaining matches for the current season, will he be appointed to take over the Chelsea manager post on a permanent basis? As a well-liked-by-the-fans former prominent Chelsea player, Di Matteo could be the solution to the biggest problem that Roman Abramovich has had since he took over Chelsea - the search of a manager that can win matches and play exciting football at the same time. It is no secret that Roman Abramovich wants to build a blue Barcelona in London. Di Matteo has won praises for his game approach when he was in West Brom - they were playing exciting football although the result was a bit unkind. Nevertheless it is still passable at 40win-19draw-24loss in 83 games with a winning percentage of 48.19. As a former Chelsea player, he may even be able to instil a bit of club pride in the Chelsea superstars to unite as a team and to play for the team.
If he could only get Torres to score goals again, if he could only win the FA Cup, if he could only go pass Napoli, if he could just grab the 4th spot to be in next season's Champions League, it will be foolish for Roman Abramovich to not want Di Matteo to stay as the new manager of Chelsea for 2012-2013 season.
My fellow myLot armchair football pundits, especially those blue-blooded ones, what is your say on it?

Even if Di Matteo keeps winning matches, there's no real chance of him being appointed as manager of chelsea. It doesn't matter if he wins the FA cup or brings chelsea to the desired 4th position because what Abramovich wants is the champion's league trophy. Without it, he would be ready to axe anyone in sight. What's more, Di Matteo is not a famous coach nor big name among all managers, and he won't last long, just like one of chelsea's manager, though he won the FA cup, reach the finals of champions league, yet he got sacked too.

Do you think Roman Abramovich will appoint Di Matteo as the manager for next season if Di Matteo wins the Champions League this season? I think he would do that as he would be under heavy public pressure to reward Di Matteo if Di Matteo could bring the only trophy that Chelsea lacks to Stamford Bridge. But he will be sacked before the end of next season in typical Abramovich style.

i think matteo must learn from the mistake of AVB..
AVB is failed when he want to change the situation and change the formation and tactics, but he only bring 2 new player and keep the older player still in chelsea squad..
i think he must refresh the squad and try for be active in the transfer
but the question , are di matteo sure that he will be in chelsea until the next season??

There is no more transfer windows to take in players this season unless it is on loan. So Di Matteo just has to use whatever he has at the moment to steer Chelsea onto the right road. He has to produce some excellent results to convince his Russian boss that maybe he can be considered as the manager permanently.

Di Matteo knows the ins and outs of the club, as he was a player here as well. But the fact remains will he be a great manager. He did not acquit himself before with West Brom where he got the sack after a poor run of form. I would think that he would only remain till the end of this season. The only that can get him a long term job would be the winning of the Champions League, if he can do that!!
Cheers!

It is everybody's expectation including Roman Abramovich, and even Chelsea has announced, that Di Matteo will be just a caretaker manager until the end of the season. That is why I ask if he can produce some outstanding results from now until the end of the season, will he be hired as a permanent one?
I think if winning the Champions League is the qualification needed for Di Matteo to get the hot seat, it is asking too much as no previous Chelsea managers, who were supposedly of higher caliber than Di Matteo, have been unable to achieve that. Not even the "special" one. I personally think that if Di Matteo can overturn that 2 goal-deficit and get pass Napoli, it is already an outstanding achievement. Not even Mancini's Manchester City could do that.
As for Di Matteo's West Brom "failure", it should not be taken against his managerial ability. All managers even the great Sir Ferguson when he first took charge at Manchester United was nearly sacked for a run of poor results before a win in a FA cup match turned things around. All the sacked Chelsea managers were not no good. They were merely unlucky that they didn't have the time to turn things around. Di Matteo could just do an AVB of Porto at Chelsea as AVB was also relatively unknown when he took over Porto. But first Di Matteo has to do what AVB could not do when he was at Chelsea, to convince his Russian boss his candidacy.

But looking at the penchant of Abrahamovich to pick top managers, I do not think Di Matteo qualifies in the same league. That is why I feel that only winning the Champions League would really establish him. I do not think even winning FA Cup could really establish him in the list of candidates.
Cheers!

As long as any manager doesn't win the Champion's league for Roman Abramovich, he shall be sacked and it's confirmed. This has been the case for many managers that comes and go. There are many high profile names who has been sacked. Even qualification is not enough, all the way to the finals is not enough as well Maybe Roberto Di matteo can last til end of season but i'm pretty sure he won't land a full time contract with chelsea

Actually it needs to do more than winning the Champions League to keep occupying the seat - AVB didn't even get the chance to show that he could deliver the CL trophy to Abramovich. Do you think Di Matteo will get the job for next season if he could win the Champions League this season? So far the 3 games that Di Matteo managed was kind of attacking, especially the Napoli game, and that is what Abramovich likes - play attackingly and win. Who knows, Abramvich may just wake up from his silly fast-food mentality for his managers.

We are all guessing what Abramovich will do. But none of us know what is in his mind. He has had the best managers that his money could buy. Even a domestic double winner could not make him satisfied. If we say it was because of the failure in the Champions League, but AVB didn't even get the chance to prove to Abramovich. Was it the attractive playing style that Abramovich wants from his manager and to win? If Di Matteo could just provide that, who knows what would the Russian think?

this is just my opinion..whatever happens to chelsea(win or lose) or even they get to the final champions league..di matteo will be replaced by another manager that abramovic would love..

That is certainly the likely outcome in the coming summer. But if Di Matteo could really deliver a decent performance in both EPL and the UCL, he could take his time to build up his own managerial career else where and one day, prove to the people who did not believe in his ability.
