I couldn't agree with you more. I may be new here to MyLot, but I also agree that if you need to tag a private message then more then likely that private message is anything BUT private.

The tags are for our own use to find PMs later using the myLot search. We cannot access the PMs of others in the same way that they can see ours. Log out and see if you are able to read yours.

It is so we can find the one we are looking for I would think. And don't they have access to everything?

hi celticeagle I think in an emergency the admins can access all its data bases even private messages.I do not think though that they would do this except in some emergency settings maybe if someone received an insulting email that the receiver could tell mylot admins and they would do something about it.

I may be wrong but I think it's so that you can save it and find it later? But how to find it later, I haven't a clue but to go page by page till you do find it. I've always skipped over that part and continued till it shows it was sent. Like FB, mylot can be a wee bit confusing at times.

We can use the myLot search to find PMs at a later date, if we remember the tag that we used.

Ahhhh, didn't know that and yeah, depending on how long ago and if our memory serves us right, we'll be able to find it. Thanks for the info!

There is nothing private about Private messages.... Every action you do or take when you are on the internet is recorded in some place or form. There is no such thing as privacy when using a computer. I prefer personal email when conducting business with someone over the internet, especially on social networks or discussion forums because at least you know that there wont be to many eyes reading your messages. ...

The personal email admin can still read your email if they want to.

They're not private in that the admins can access them if they want, they can access anything. But I think the tagging is probably a matter of convenience in writing the program code. Everything has the "tag" button only because it would be an extra step, or maybe just a pain in the tush, to leave it off one feature. But I could be wrong.

MyLot have given us the option of tagging them so that we can then find them later using the myLot search, if we remember the tag.

The tags in the private messages are for you to use when you want to search for one of your received or sent private messages using the search-box. It is private.

you would have to have an exceptional memory to remember all these tags. i have hundreds of different ones by now

It doesn't matter if you could remember those tags. When you want to find something, you just put in the relevant words to search. If you did put your tags correctly reflecting the contents of you private message, you will get what you search for.

I use the PM tags to put the message recipients name. That way, when I go back through my messages, I can immediately see to whom they were sent. It helps me anyway.

I don't often tag mine. But I assumed it was for our own benefit, so we could search specific ones for ourselves.

I think if you exchange a lot of private messages and one day have to filter out some stuffs in the pile, then searching with relevant tags helps you pick them out, rather than scanning the entire collection which may be time consuming. So, they do serve a purpose, after all.

hibunnybpn I am not sure as I read you cannot say certain things in private messages so how does that work. are our messages scanned by software for foul language and things that break mylot rules and is this scanning then checked by the admins .how can it be private if it can be read by admins?I have more questions but no answers!

I have no idea about this. I was also wondering about the tagging of the private messages. I wonder if maybe it is for our own references.

I'm not sure. I know if I don't clean out my cookies or my history on my browser the tags remain and pop up when I start typing something. But, if I clean them out, they all start over from scratch.

I don't tag them. I just go through the skip process so my message will get to the person. I also don't believe our private messages are private. Mylot admins probably have access to monitor what we write in pm messages.

That is a wiser thing to do. Imagine if someone admitted something on PM that was illegal.. I bet the cops would be knocking at their door in just a few minutes!

This is not a direct answer to your discussion but I am just happy to know the reason/s why we need to tag private messages. I am happy to know that there are concerned mylot members who knows the exact answer to important questions just like yours. As of this response, I am just knew so I took time to read those wonderful responses and the good thing is that I'm learning new things here as I read and participate in them. This is a wonderful topic especially to those new members like me. Thank you for asking this question that helps everyone in understanding the use of the "tag" in private messages.

I don't mind the tag. I just put one tag in anyway. Nothing that would give away what I am citing about. So, don't worry.

im not worried about it. i was just very curious about it. i dont talk about anything there i worry about. only give my email address to some so we can really talk private.

It will be alright even if you do tag them as no-one can see your PMs. Indeed you cannot see them yourself if you are logged out. Try it

ya i too having the same doubt... but we have to trust them.. but dono why they saying to tag and all.. so its better to avoid sending private message because i think it is not as secure as i think...

If you had taken the time to read the previous responses then you would know that the tags are for us, and allow us to organise our PMs for future reference if we need to find them later. No-one can read your PMs. You cannot see them yourself if you are logged out of your account.

I haven't send any private messages so far but I also agree with you that why is it necessary to tag private messages when any mylot user is sending to another mylot user and it stays between them. Maybe is for searching as there is option for searching in messages ...

im still not quite sure but some said it was because when they set up the program they was unable to remove that option. something like that
