Rick Santorum has won the Kansas Caucus. Does this make him a viable contender for the Republican nomination? Why or why not? Please share your thoughts.

I don't think any of the republicans are viable candidates in general. Santorum is too extreme; that would hand the election to Obama. Romney is only scoring well with people with incomes of $200k and larger. I don't know why Gingrich is still in. Polls show, out of the four running, that Paul has the best chance at beating Obama, due to, in part, OWS. After learning more about Paul, though, his stance on social issues is devastatingly wrong. To be frank, I am rooting for Santorum, so that the primary continues. They are eating their own in this race.

Ron Paul's supporters seem to stick with him no matter what.

Exit polls re Romney - http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/post/wealthy-voters-deliver-for-mitt-romney/2012/03/06/gIQAjJhAwR_blog.html He won the wealthy voter demographic by 14 points. OWS'ers have the anti-corporatism sentiment in common with Ron Paul supporters. OWS is only toxic to companies and wealthy who are not paying their fair share. You should read about it. The mayor of Oakland issued an open letter about city employees taking the day off, only after Scott Olsen, a veteran marine, sufferred a near fatal skull fracture, upon her orders directing the police. She was playing politics and trying to save face.

I like him. I voted for him in Missouri. Truthfully, only because Gingrich wasn't on the ballot. But I like either one on them as apposed to Romney. And Romney's good if he's the choice besides Obama. We need men of principle and character like Santorum. And we need men like Gingrich who are unafraid.

No, they won't because he's not a nice guy. lol I happen to think nice in leadershipn is over rated. Ethical and honest, yes. Nice, not so much. I've heard it said that we don't need another narcissist in the White House after Obama, but my reasoning is that is exactly what we need, just one with conservative mind set, not a liberal one. Who better to beat King Obama than King Newt? lol I'm being a bit silly, but I think Newt's intelligence and ego are much needed. Why do I think ego is needed? America is beat down and made to feel beneath the other nations of the world. THAT needs to change.

I like Santorum. I am really having a tough time deciding who I like the most. I guess when you get right down to it, I think Gingrich would be really great, however, I don't think people will give him a chance:)

Oh, I still do not know if he is a viable contender, I do know that i like some things about him, but some of what Yahoo claims he has said makes me not like him so much. I do respect the fact that Kansas was important enough for him to at least visit, unlike Newt Gingrich who could not be bothered with us. I want to feel like my vote is just as important as any one else's vote.

I think he is a very divisive candidate and I don't thing he is a viable contender. In order to win four years ago, Obama had to get some of the Republican vote. In order to win this time, the Republican candidate will have to get some of the Democratic vote and I don't think Santorum can do that. He will unify the Dems if anything cause they can't stand him. Still, he has livened things up a bit. Basically it's a boring primary on both sides. The Democrats already have their candidate and the Republicans are leaning toward a very safe choice in Romney. Not at all like 2008 when there were two women and an Afrian American poised to make history. No matter who won in 2008, it would have been ground breaking.

He won there but lost Wyoming and at several territories so that Romney picked up more delegates the same day. Alabama and Mississippi will be battles between Santorum and Gingrich. If Newt loses both, he should get out, then Santorum might have a better chance. It also hurts him that the Texas primary comes so late sinc ehe might do well there.

I think he is a viable candidate, but Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul need to get out for him to have the best chance against Romney. Romney for all his wins simply cannot pull a majority of people together who trust or want him as their candidate. In my opinion, if he is having trouble getting a majority here, he has little or no chance of beating Obama. Hugs, Maggie

Hi Maggie, I also think Gingrich and Paul need to leave the race. Romney does lack voter trust. Santorum would be a terrific nominee. Have a great day!
