I had major problems with my computer this morning. I couldn't get the speakers to work and then when I plugged in my ear phones I could hear sound so I check my control panel and it seems like everything was fine and then I accidently uninstalled the speaker system, oops! Urhgg!! It became frustrating to me to fix it. So I just did a restore on the computer from files backed up on Sunday, well the restore was successful but I still seem to have the same problem Does anyone have any suggestions? How can I get the sound back without my ear phones?

If your ear phones work while your speaker doesn't, it could mean your speaker is faulty. Does the speaker need batteries or A/C? Don't the two use the same output jack?

I am not sure, but restoring the system is okay once or twice but after awhile it can make viruses appear. Atleast it had for me in the past. have you looked at the conrol panel's full configuration? there may be something you are missing. I'd check and uncheck everything, test everything.

Things like that happen really on some computers. You managed to restore all your sound file back and still the problem persist. You must double check your external speaker system if there is power on it, maybe there is a broken wire or something on its power cord if it is AC powered. If it is Universal Serial Bus (USB) powered then, check if the wire going into your computer's USB port is loose. Likewise check if the speakers audio cable going into your computer's audio jack is place firmly and not loose or detached. If you are hearing some sounds on your headphones, then I think there is no problem with your audio card if you have any. Try to check also your sound configuration settings, for example if your using Realtek HD Audio Manager, you can choose which audio ports and speaker ports to plug your external speaker into the computer. There is a checklist panel there wherein you will be asked if the plug you inserted is a mic, headphone or an external speaker. If to no avail all these simple check-ups and solutions fail then I guess you need to buy a new speaker system them.

These guys here are already talking complicatedly. lol Before anything else, I would suggest you check the immediate things around you. Are your speaker on loud volume? At least loud enough that you can hear? Are your speakers connected to the computer correctly? Are your speakers pluggin in? How about plugged in the power source? If these are not the problem, then we would go to the software part. Open your "volume mixer" in your control panel and see there are any mute among them. Did your speaker driver really got uninstalled? Because if not, try to do this first.

Check the wires first and see if they're plugged in properly, and in the right sockets. Then check if the volume is set to mute or maybe it's just lowered to a minimum. I had the same problem before but the reason why mine didn't produce any sounds is because rats ate the wires. I had to buy new speakers.

I assume you have tried unplugging all the connections to the speakers and plugging them back in. The next thing is are they fairly inexpensive speakers? If so try fiddling with the wires as they leave the speakers but if they are externally powered be care. Also, if they are externally powered try unplugging them from the power source and back in. The next thing to worry about and which really can't be checked other than to do some careful tapping in the area near the power switch whether they are powered externally or from the computer. Since the headphones are working it may not be the sound card but it still could be. Unless you are confident about doing stuff inside the computer cabinet, this is something you need to take it to a service to have looked at. Good luck.

Uninstalling your audio hardware, then reinstalling it. Once detected again, it will look for the drivers, and as you accidentally uninstall the sound files, it will look for it once again. Check your speakers connection if it is plugged in properly. If it still would not work, an option is to buy an audio card.
