Will Rising Gas Prices Cause Obama To Lose The Election?

This may be the final straw with the american public in a world that demands more and more oil. This is not the only problem as food prices have soared to all-time highs since Obama took office. What are the other choices? We got Mitt Romney who seems to be a nice guy who's had success running a company. At least hes got some sense of economics and would seem like the best fit to keep the economy moving in the right direction. Who knows if it will last by the time hes in office though? Then there is Rick Santorum who the idea of a true underdog. Hes outspent by a long haul but is still reaching the appeal to the american public. He says it like he means it which is really fresh when it comes to politics and has worked hard to get the votes he has. Then we got Newt Gingrich who's staying in the race because of pride and meaness. He seems to just want to take away votes from Romney who's loaded with fund raising cash unlike the bitter Gingrich. Finally we got Ron Paul who's staying in the race for the message hes sending. I really agree and like what Paul has to say but I can't help and get a chuckle when he talks. He certainly doesn't look presidential. I still got to praise him though for staying in the race and raising awareness for his cause about the U.S. deficit. The out of control spending the Government has done for so long and absurd money printing by the Fed is really a message worth staying in the race over. My Votes Still Up in the Air as I'm an Independent. I will vote come November.

Remember back when the gas prices hit $4 a gallon under President Bush and the Democrats said that drilling would not help to reduce gas prices because it would take too long - well if we had not started to drill over their objections the price of gas would be much higher. Why is it OK to prevent drilling that will produce energy in 5 to 10 years but spend billions on alternative energy that will take 20 to 30 years before it will be economically viable?

Because people are dumb enough to believe that once you build solar panels or wind turbines you get free electricity forever.

If Mitt Romney is the GOP candidate, then I would guess no. Quite frankly, if Romney is the GOP guy, then I'll either not vote, or vote for someone else.

well from this discussion its more about the dissatisfaction of the republican candidates more then the dislike of obama.

The only thing that could cause Obama to lose the election would be for the Republicans to field a creditable opponent. Sadly, it seems that they are going to shoot themselves in the foot and give Obama an easy win.

well if the economy keeps going in a positive direction then pretty soon the republicans won't even be able to use that as an attack and still be so relevant.

I also agree gas prices could be his down fall. I imagine the economy is going to start sinking again because of gas prices. I really do not think Obama can do to much in this situation. Obviously he can try certain things but whether they work or not is a different story. I still say it is a conspiracy to get the Republicans back in the White House. Its nice when people play politics with peoples lives. I say we all open online businesses and screw driving 40 to 50 miles to work. Maybe if half the gas consumption dropped then the prices would drop again. Other than that I think Obama and the American people are screwed. At least the Republicans will get back in the White House and I will not have to listen how Obama is a Nazi, Muslim, socialist, Communist, born in Kenya, environmental extremist no more.

i believe people are a whole lot more price conscious when it comes to high gas prices now since people can look back at how high oil got in 2008. the only way i can see gas prices going much higher is if israel attacked iran. that looks like its becoming more and more a reality.

First and foremost, it is going to depend on who The Republicans nominate. This election was a perfect opportunity for The Republicans to take take The White House back. But they can not get it together to give us a candidate to vote for. I might consider Romney but not Santorum. I think the voters are unhappy with Obama and The Democrats but more unhappy with The Republican choices. We have no idea what will happen by November. What is going to come out of the woodwork? The economy seems to be improving but gas prices are going through the roof, maybe. Interestingly enough, isn't that what caused the last recession in 2007 / 2008?

it was a combination of reckless mortgage lending and high oil prices. reckless lending was more the cause.

I don't think Obama will lose the elections. I think his Republican opponents are week and are not a challenge for him. I think this country needs to work on producing there own oil instead of relying on someone else to supply them and take advantage by sky rocketing the prices.
