At the moment I am reading a book called Extreme hotels and in that book the author describes some of the unusual hotels around the world. In the book there are pictures of the buildings that have been converted into hotels for instanse lighthouses, windmills, schools, churches and prisons.
I think it is interesting to see the different hotels that are created that way. They are different from other hotels and I think that it would be an interesting experience to spend the night in one of those places.
I am especially interested in the lighthouse in the Netherlands. It is very popular so you have to make reservations one year in advance, unfortunately it is also quite expensive. I think that the view from the lighthouse must be amazing, and it would be a great place to spend the night.
Are there any unusual hotels in your area/your country? Have you ever spent the night in an unusual hotel or have you heard of an unusual hotel where you would like to stay?

There is not much extreme hotels here in the Philippines but we do have a lighthouse hotel. Check this link...http://www.lighthousesubic.com/ I stayed there for a month because my friend owns the place. It is a great place to relax. I have heard that in 2013 the first Underwater Resort in South East Asia will be opened here in Palawan. I wish I can stay there but I am pretty sure that it will be too expensive. There is this resort south of Manila where they converted container trucks into hotel rooms. I would like to stay in the igloo like rooms of some hotels in the Scandinavian region. I would also like to stay for a weekend at the Giraffe Manor in Kenya where you can feed the giraffes right at your doorstep or at your window. I would like also to stay at the old hotels in Egypt where they treat you as royalty during the old times. I forgot the name but I will have to research it again.

Your friend's lighthouse hotel looks like very nice place It is one of my dreams to stay in a lighthouse like you did. I don't think we have that kind of hotels in my country, or if we do I have never heard about them. An underwater resort is also an interesting idea, but I think that you are right, it will be a very expensive place to stay, and I don't think that I would be able to pay for that kind of experience. I have read about the Giraffe manor in Kenya, it was mentioned in one of the lists of unusual hotels that I found online. On one of the pictures a giraffe put his head through the window. It would be interested to be that close the animals.

It looks like an amazing place. They have no electricity only candles, that would definately be a different experience. I would like the idea of experiencing life in the past. Of course we can read historical books about other periods, but it would be more interesting to stay at a place like that hotel.

Even the food they serve are traditional and I think they cook and bake it as how it was cooked from the past. I like the setting so much. Situated at the base of a rock formation and a lake I think. How I wish I can go there.

Those unusual places sound interesting to stay in a holiday. So far, I've only stayed in known hotels or resorts. But one has to spend more and book well in advance both of which are constraints for me.Hence, I'm ruling out the possibility of staying in one such hotel.

That is true, hotels like that are often more experience and more popular than other hotels. Some of those hotels are very small like the lighthouse where there is only room for one couple, so it is neccesary to make reservations many months or even one year in advance. I don't usually plan my vacations that early but if I ever want to stay at one of those places it is neccesary to make plans early. I would also have to save up the money well in advance, because that kind of hotels are much more expensive than the hotlels where I uually stay.

I haven't yet been able to stay in an unusual hotel but I have to admit I'm totally fascinated by them. In particular, I'm interested in treehouse hotels - they have them many places around the world. Here is a slideshow of five, just as an example: http://www.environmentalgraffiti.com/green-living/tree-house-hotels/3591
One of the unusual hotels in my part of the world is the Ice Hotel that is constructed each year in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada during their big winter carnival. It only exists from January to March each year (and has been created yearly since 2001). Many people flock to see it before it's gone. You can see some pretty cool images on their website: http://www.hoteldeglace-canada.com/
I think lighthouses sound very cool, too, by the way... I'm going to look up some photos of those. I really hope I have a bigger travel budget at some point in my life because there are so many things I'd love to see and do

I would like to stay in a treehouse hotel, I think that would be an interesting experience. We don't have them in my country, but I know that they exist in other parts of the world for instanse in Central America. The pictures look very nice. I also looked at the pictures of the Ice Hotel in Quebec. It is a fascinating thought that they create that hotel every year. It could be interesting to see that place in person. I wonder what it would be like to spend the night there, it would definately be different from other hotels where I have stayed and I like the idea of trying something totally different.

i would love to stay in a hotel that was in an old lighthouse. i love lighthouses, the water and the beach so that would definitely be the place for me. here in Canada, we have ice hotels. a hotel that is made completely out of ice. it would be pretty cold to stay in one and each year, they show them on the news but no thanks, not for me.

I also love lighthouses and I like to visit them and climb to the top if it is possible. Some of the lighthouses in my country are open and people can visit them and enjoy the view from the top. I think that it could be fun to spend the night in a lighthouse and look at the water while it is getting dark outside I can imagine that it is very cold to stay in an ice hotel. We would need lots of warm clothes. I would like to spend a night in one of those ice hotel, but I think that one night would be enough, I just want to try it once and see what it is like to stay there.

I think that the lighthouse hotel would be great. I would not really be interested in staying in a prison though. That just sounds wrong. I have never stayed at an extreme or unusual hotel before. I would be interested if there was one near me.

I also think that the lighthouse hotel would be an interesting place to stay. I don't plan on visiting the Netherlands at the moment, but if I go on a vacation there, I would like to spend the night in that lighthouse and enjoy the beautiful view from the top of the lighthouse. My brother once stayed in an old prison. He said that it was a pretty strange experience. The window bars and the other things from the old prison were still there and he did not feel very comfortable there. I have never seen one of those prison hotels in person, I have only heard about them and seen pictures of them.

A lighthouse seems very romantic. I don't know about any strange hotel in my country but a few years ago I watched a video about an ice hotel. It was in some northern country, maybe Sweeden, I don't remember exactly. Everything was made of ice but it was possible to live there. The ice is beautiful but I prefer to watch it from a distance. Anyway, now I learned that there are ice hotels in many northern countries and they have plenty of customers.

Yes, a lighthouse would be a romantic place to spend the night. In the lighthouse in the Netherlands that I read about there is one room so the couple who chooses to stay there will have to it all to themselves, and the view from the top must be amazing. I have seen pictures from some of those ice hotels, but I have never spent the night in one of them. I think it is would be very cold inside that kind of hotel, but I would like to visit one of those hotels once and experience the place on my own.
