Why Does My Cat Love Going in my Closet?

Every once in a while my cat likes to go in my closet for several minutes and just stay there and then maybe after ten minutes comes out? I know she isn't using it as a litter box, it seems she just wants to be alone in there to "meditate" perhaps? LOL, I don't know but it is so stuffed, I'm surprised she can still fit in there.

Don't cats love warm places? So far I know, they also really want to go to places that are closed-areas when they want to rest. I guess it's because they want to be secured from other creatures/beings or things that would mean them any harm. I observed this behavior from the stray cats staying around my house. They go to dark and enclosed spaces and loves the area where it's really warm. When I also searched the net for this, the same thing came up--cats love warm, dark and enclosed areas. I think your closet fits the description, so that's why your cat must have chosen that as its "spot".

I'm not really sure what you mean to say in the last part about one certain cat going to the closet when she had her kittens and the last part about it why would the cat go there for only several minutes... I'll just tell you about this one observation I got. There was this cat who had her kittens at the back of our house. It's dark, enclosed and warm enough because that area is stacked with boxes and old stuff like books. I am living in a tropical area, by the way. The mother is always away and only comes back to feed her kittens then goes away again. I'm not sure where she's going but that's usually the case with her. Is this somewhat similar to what you mean?

Yes, they most certainly do, there are so many other warm places in the house though, such as a bed. It as quite warm all day here too. The night not as much when she wanted to go in it again yesterday evening. Thats interesting about the info on the cats loving warm, dark, enclosed spaces. I never realized that, my other cats never did that with the closets except the one I had eons ago when she had the kittens. But even so why is it just for several minutes and not hours when they love to sleep that long at a time inmost cases.

Cats like to get in the smallest of places possible just to prove they can. I remember one of my cats, as a kitten, would love to crawl inside those empty twelve pack soda boxes. One day, Ginger got stuck - the box was suddenly too small - or Ginger was suddenly too big...lol....Ginger was very, very annoyed and kept trying and trying. Eventually giving up. My cat, Rook, will go in the smallest of spaces just to see if he can.

LOL, yea, that sounds so cute. I had a phat cat once, Tyger, who tried to fit into one of those small square tissue boxes, He was hilarious, but my current cat is a hoot too. She even tries to 'race' me into the living room at times, as if I were another cat or something. Or, like a child would do.

If you're a cat, closets are just a really fun place. They are a quiet place in which to sleep; they are cozy; there are plenty of things to smell, and, of course, it is fun to scent mark your humans' clothes by rubbing against them. That way, the whole feline world knows who owns this particular human.

Maybe thats what she is doing, marking everything in there with her scent and rubbing against them, I'm not sure. LOL. She loves doors she can get into in general, and always tries to sneak out or in the basement when they door is shut. It's the mystery of a closed door perhaps.

Doesn't everybody like a nice cozy comfortable place to rest where we feel really safe?? Nothing like a little quality time. Well, I'm off. I'll be in the closet if you want me. OK!OK! Just kidding. Might be just the place to get away from it all from time to time. Of course, there is option 2. Kittens on the way.

Hehehe, yea, quality time, thats what I thought too kind of. No, she is not pregnant, but alas I did have a different cat long, long ago that did retreat to a closet before she had her babies. This current one now that does this was on the onset of being pregnant when I took her to be spayed (the DR didn't think she was preggo but he told me they removed some teeniest of the tiny forms of the kitties before they spayed her, which was a surprise to all of us, she must have been like 1 week pregnant! Maybe somehow deep down inside she might think she can still have them, I dunno. But this was several years ago already.)

Well that's interesting o_O. Maybe she's doing some private stuff... ___ LOL. You should take a peek on what she's doing once she goes in xD It's an invasion of privacy but I still would since my curiosity always beats me to it. Then again, curiosity killed the cat. HA, I hope you notice my pun there :D

LOL, I noticed your pun, too funny. I think she just wants some "me" time perhaps and since cats are curious by nature she might just be curious to see if anything has changed in there since the last time she snuck into it. I'm not sure, but when I used to go in there to take her out, she would get mad and run out of the room, like a child. So now I just leave her to go do what she "has" to do (snoop around perhaps? But then like I said there isn't much room even for that. She sounds like she is just sitting in there, LOL.)
