He JUMPED!

No, not Rygel, our first jumper, nor Oliver, nor Daisy... no, it was Mo who jumped! Mo? A couple of years ago my former supervisor contacted me about another co-worker (I didn't know her) who's husband was having her "get rid" of the cats because their daughter was pregnant. She brought over 2 cats, both declawed named Patches and Moses (Mo). Well, we've already had a couple of Patches, and they are both at the Rainbow Bridge, so we chose to change her name to Diva, which suits her to a "T". Both were over weight, and "Mo can't eat the regular food, he throws it up. He has to eat this special food." Well, they were feeding the other cat garbage from the dollar store, we won't feed our cats that stuff. We put both of them on Purina One and haven't had a moment of trouble with either. Diva dropped weight right off since she was now getting a higher quality of food, and Mo also started shedding some weigh, but more because he was having to be more active. Diva is friendly enough, but Mo is an absolute love bug. He likes to get on you, bury his face and kneed like mad! I don't hold with de-clawing, but he could easily have inflicted damage on bare skin with this trick. So, tonight he came around my feet. I did my "invite" to jump up, and the first time he just stood up and put his paws on my leg. But when I didn't pick him up, the next time he jumped. He got REALLY high too! Actually higher, I think, than Oliver does, and got his front paws over my shoulder. We praised and pet him, like we have with any cat who jumps, and he walked from my arms to the roomie's. He was very pleased with himself, as well he should be. I think we have a 4th jumper now. Yeah, Pong and Timus have both jumped as well, but they've only done it once and twice respectively... Now I have to write his former owner so she can know what new trick Mo has learned from my cats!

get rid of cats cause she was pregnant? geesh. ive had cats through all my pregnancies. in fact i was never a dog person till the past 15yrs of my life. i had cats around my babies and never had a problem. we have had 12 to 14 cats at a time. they have even slept with the babies when they got big enough to sleep in their own bed. such a silly belief and ive never declawed the poor things. they have no defense then if they accidently get outside.

On Babies and cats,I saw a youtube clip earlier of a baby in one of those baby recliners..he started crying a little, and the black cat nearby came over to see what was going on..then put a paw on top of the baby's head! the touch must have soothed the baby,as he settled down Me,I have a 5' wood bookshelf...DJ can jump about 3' up the side supports (I Have yet to figure what He's aiming for-the laser pointer is pinned near the top on the other side,so it's not that..!) and until I moved the sofa away,He was able to jump on top of the bookcase from the sofa armrest and toss stuff from the top..

I've seen that one too. The thing is that when this cat came to us, he was so out of shape he couldn't jump more than a couple of feet up, now he's doing close to 4!

Sounds like he is a very proud putty cat. I bet that owner will be surprised too. It will probably make her feel better about the separation too...that he is doing so well.

Reminds of the barns cats at the stable! We used to have a tiger cat, with alot of white, who loved to rub up against me all the time and loved to have his head rubbed when he was petted! Then there is Valentino. He is not declawed and if he was I would let him kneed in my neck like Mo does! I have let him do it when I have layers of sweatshirts on in the winter in the past. Then ther is the "Old Lady",Buttons. Buttons is 20 years old now. She is has a grey, brown and white coloring I can't think what it is called. Lately I have noticed she is stiff in the back legs which means, properly, arthitis. She cant't jump form the floor to the feed box to eat anymore. She climbes unto some feed bags first, which are on the side, then jumping on to the feed box. Cats are amazing animals! I also have heard stories of cats surviving being burnt in house fires, one that had been set on fire by some idiots and some survivng from falling from apartment buidings! enough rambling for now! Alot of your cat stories remind me of some of mine!

You like the cat so much.At the sight of cats, I always associate them with tiger. What a cute animal!however I have never kept the cats.To be honest,I shrink from feeding them after learning of what you said ,they are so finicky about their food.

I do love cats, and there was a TV program called "Tigers on the Tiles" about house cats. They showed that the form of cats, from lap cat to lion/tiger, they just aren't that different, really, only the size has changed!

How I miss my kitten. I have this cat now, pure white, regular breed, with a tiny black spot on his head and so I named him Spot. He loved jumping onto my shoulders and purr and pet on my neck. I missed those days, because now he has grown up and is mostly outside doing whatever it is he does. He comes home when it's meal time and sometimes I find him with bruises and wounds, probably from cat fights. He has become thinner since I was not able to feed him always as I am not at home most of the time now. Anyway, hurray Mo!

Maybe she will learn the trick from you about feeding her pets better food and not letting them get fat. Sheesh, just because they are animals doesn't mean you can just give them any old garbage you want. Sometimes the way people treat their animals makes me so mad.
