I'm 29 years old. I reached second year in college major in Computer Programming but I didn't finish it. I started working as a cashier in different malls in Metro Manila. Now that I'm 29 years old I don't have a regular job yet. Sad to say I'm already overage to apply again as a cashier, so I'm planning to apply in a call center industry I think this is my chance to find job. So I try twice but I didn't make it. So I need more practice and study my answer so that the next time I try I'm sure I will pass.

I hear you and I am with you 100%. I never went to any computer classes, I learned on my own. Bought a Tandy 1000 years ago, with a whopping 128k of memory and no hard drive. No modem and no Internet access either. It had a 5.25" floppy drive, and I learned to write in BASIC on it, and I had fun. Then I moved through all the Windows editions from 3.11 to 7, as well as Mac OS9 and OS-X to Lion. I also work with Linux. I build and troubleshoot my own machines, and I do this for neighbors and friends as well. Can't really get a job in IT because they all want degrees, yet Microsoft recognized my talent and awarded me the MVP honor several times.
So I said forget it, and I started writing about what I know. I make a good living writing articles freelance on IT. Freelance writers don't need to display degrees because we write for contracts, or people simply bid and buy what we write.

Hi Angelgee;
I started at Triond, and then moved to other sites as my skills improved. One of the people here spoke of iWriter, and I signed up there. They have many different topics that people request articles for, so you can pick one or more and give it a try. Look for ones that the requester has high acceptance rates, and try them first. I also write at Constant Content, there they have editors review every work you publish, and you set prices for articles, or people can bid on them.

Me too and honestly I never tried to take any job in my entire life I was always at home and now that I am 27 years old I realize that I need to change this. I don't have plans to find a job but I have plans to put up a small business for me to start earning even if I'm staying at home. I know that through patience and faith I know I can do it.

That is true adhyz according to the latest studies that there are more people who are going rich while working at home than who go on the office and do their job for almost 24 to 12 hours. I think that is not bad. Networking both on line and off line seems really nice bet and it creates thousands of millionaires around the world inside their own home.

Hello Vrianna. In our country, the most practical and sure job that you will get is indeed in the call center industry. Sadly and ironically, we are I think the only country in the world who put more importance in age and "pleasing personality" in terms of job requirements. I had the same dilemma ten years ago when I could no longer get a job in food industry because I was overage at 30. I think I was just lucky because at the time, the call center industry was just starting it's roots here in our country and I was able to get in. My advise to you so that you will pass is to be very talkative during the interview. But make sure that what you are saying is relevant to the question being asked . Most recruiters think twice about getting people who are very shy and timid.

Yes, it's really hard to find a regular job this days. I've held a regular job for 4 years, complete with really good benefit package, leave days, and of course the security. Until one day, our company decided to outsource our department. So instead of being a regular company with the benefits, we were to be absorbed by the new manpower agency. Just like that, we were contractual workers. I opted to leave. It was hard looking for another job where I could get the same benefits. I was from a service industry so it was hard for me to get a job which is marketing-related which was the course I finished. So I hear you, it's really hard to find a regular job these days. Luckily, I have a job now. The pay isn't that much, but I'm getting by. We're still hiring if you want to try here. :)

I'm not sure, but you can try it out. We have an opening for assistant researcher. I'm not sure what that really entails though. I think it's on jobstreet. Try searching for BCI Asia. Good Luck!

I think Call centers only look for individuals who speaks english fluently. That's what you should focus on and try speaking the language in your entire day. Plus, online jobs can be helpful too. If you really know how to do programming, there sites in the net which gives you that job.

Hi vrianna!
I know call center is the only solution for most unemployed Filipino citizens especially those who are already in 30's(age). Don't loose hope,I know it may sometimes take time for one to find a job but I know for sure you will be able to work in a call center company. Just try and try. My son is lucky to have been hired by Stream Global International Company and he is very well compensated. He is now a regular employee but my son wishes to resign,he likes to work abroad. I will just be here to support him.
Good luck to you!

I think you should complete your 2nd year studies first before applying. I know call center companies are now strict when it comes to educational attainments.

It is hard to find a job. There aren't a lot of positions out there and it can be disheartening. You just have to keep trying though. I have only been working part time for the past couple of years but I feel pretty lucky to have that amount of work.

hi vrianna, I understand what do you feel right now as I had experienced the same. I got some jobs but as a contractual only. After few months of working in a company, I have to find again another company where I can apply for a job. It was difficult for me to get regular in my job. Because of that, I decided to go again to college and take up Education Course. I finished my 4 year degree course, I took the Licensure Examination for Teachers and with the help of God, I successfully passed it. After that, I applied in a public school and here I am now. I am now a teacher with a stable job. Don't give up vrianna. If you have enough money, try to invest it again in education. Who knows, after that, you can get a good paying and stable job.

hi vrianna, i agree its so difficult to land a job nowadays.. but don't worry there are a lot of companies around. so it's that difficult to enter a call center company huh. I remember applying for a call center job about 5 years ago, there were so many tests and interviews that i had to travel back and forth to manila. but when they called and asked me to return i didn't bother anymore because i found another job hahahaha ive been hired in a hospital. although the difference in the pay was SOOO big,., i just needed a job... ^_^ somehow i regret not continuing with the call center though, haha

Don't be frustrated about it. I myself has tried to apply in call center thrice but then I wasn't able to pass. We have the same age you know. I just accept the fact that it is hard to find a job, what bothers me is that when my parents are pressuring me that much and they even put me down. They are not motivating me instead they keep on bad mouthing against me. There was a time that my dad even questioned my application to the extent that he gave me harsh words during that day. That is why when I applied in Telus I wasn't able to pass because I can't concentrate during the interview and I lacked confidence. I really cried so hard because I hate my dad during that day.

You are not alone we have the same experience. I can't concentrate to the interview because I feel the pressure that my family expected if I got home there is a good news. Sometimes I want to cry because I don't know what to do. So sad but I think it's happening to everyone.

It is also the case for us. I have come to my third year in the university and for college graduates the salary of the first year is just about 2000 RMB and it is hard to survive even in a modest city in my country. So a lot of classmates of mine have decided to go to a better graduate school. But it is equally difficult to go to a good graduate school, and there is a saying that it is like for a poweful army to compete for the single-plank bridge. But road is created by our own feet. We can do nothing but deal with the challenge.

Here in the Philippines as long you have talents and skills althought you are not a college graduate you can still find a job especially abroad. Sometimes a vocational graduate or even take a training course in TESDA has many job opportunity especially if you are a skilled workers. Can you believe it even a college graduate having a hard time finding a job? What more to a college undergraduate? Nowadays, it is not matter if you are a college graduate or not as long as you have skills, knowledge and talents there still many companies waiting for you.

Yeah talent and skills are important staff as an employee even a student from a well known university may be rejected if he can do nothing but study. But the case is that most employers take the employee's diploma as step-stone and without it we have barely any chance to enter a good corporation. I think the process to fight for a better diploma is also a way to aquire skills especially as an acaemic major.

That's the problem working with malls, most of these companies do not regularize their workers. Unlike with call center companies, you will be regularize after 6 months depends upon your performance. Some agents are too lucky to have been regularize as early as 3 months. Not to mention the benefits and the big difference when it comes to salary (from cashier to call center agent)
Wish you all the best...always put your best foot forward :)

Hi Vrianna,
I think you should keep trying for a job, however hard it seems. There are many who believe only in degrees, but there are also a few sensible people who realize that people can be efficient even without degrees, and with practical experience alone.
Degrees are way overrated. It has been proven that 5-year olds are smarter in solving management problems than people who have taken management degrees like the MBA. In fact, some would even say that the stress of getting degrees can affect your intelligence, making you dumber than you were before.
Keep looking, and I'm sure you will find an employer who appreciates your talents.
I wish you the very best of luck in finding a job you love!!

Hi Vrianna, try to apply in encoding companies instead if call center industries not accepting you yet. They regularize. There are some in Ortigas and Makati. Anyway you have computer related studies it will not be difficult for you to adapt in their environment. Or since you have cashiering experiences, try work abroad. Try to search online for agencies. PM me so I could share to you some agencies which do offer no placement fee. Goodluck. Life is hard especially if you don't have regular work. Or you can also apply to electronics companies they prefer college level.

I like that data encoder actually I applied in datascope in makati last week unfortunately I failed because I need to practice the home key or the position of fingers in keyboard although I reached a typing speed of 35 and 95% accuracy and still I didn't pass. Ok I will PM you. Thank you for these info.

In' my country, Belgium, it's really hard to find a good and stable Job. I'm 31 and since I'm out shool I have only 1 year contract and have to do big search every time to find something else ( 3 month). In Belgium the problem is that they have advantage to take young people that never had work so...
I use different ways to find, internet, local paper, going to find the boss of different enterprises, phone calls, asking to friends if where they work there's not a place for me,...
In two month I have to find a new jobs but I'm already looking for a new one. Wish you good luck to find a good and stable job

I know how hard to find a job now. If you can't find a full time job, you can find part time job. I work for online too. I register in freelance site like freelancer.com, elance.com, etc. They provide so many kinds of online job. You can browse per category which job that match your skill well. Don't worry it's legitimate site and no scam there.

I think it's getting harder to get degree jobs nowadays in the economy we're (Assuming you're American) in. I hope to become a History teacher hopefully but I'm not sure if the jobs will be filled already since college graduates are becoming really quite common.
