knowing a host country

Philippines

I just saw this video at youtube of Jimmy, a foreigner who lives in the Philippines for 3.5 years and still does I suppoe (and I wonder why after all that he said), showing 20 reasons why he dislikes the Philippines (which is also the title of the video at youtube). Made me want to cry. It’s creating quite a stir at youtube and facebook. But can’t he be more respectful and decent in a country where he is a guest?

yeah he may be right, in fact there are I think more then 20 reasons to hate our country, but there are hundreds more to like it, so I would not mind him if I were you not unless it was a general consensus of all the foreigners who had been here and interacted with the people, perhaps the just want views and more views if you compare it with why he likes it " frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" much less waste my time giving him importance. To mind him would give him importance, and in my opinion that is what he needs cause he lacks it

you are right. Not a good thing to do but he does succeed in promoting himself. Means and ends. Thanks louievill for the response.

yes just to add cause I'm furious, if another man let you stay in he's home and you saw something bad, would you tell everyone even people you do not know? I would probably tell only people close to me and my host so they would improve. Has he been to the whole Philippines? ( obviously he has not). If I went to certain parts of the United States or India and saw some terrible things, would I make a video and generalize about the whole country? I certainly would not. Sure some things he said were true, there's a lot of flies cause this is a tropical country as he found out and so does those who fought in the Indo-china war grrr, All the grime, perhaps he should bathe 2 or 3 times a day like we do! Giving a partial picture of certain things does not make what he says gospel truth, honestly I pity him. he's so pathetic....

I wasn't able to watch the youtube yet but then all I can say is that if he doesn't like our country then he must go back to his homeland. He is one of the few foreigners that I've heard about bad things of the Philippines.

One more thing if he has sense of decency then why does he need to publicize it and show it to the world that he is ranting about our country? I admit there are things that I don't like here in our own country but then it doesn't mean that I have to rant it or even loathe it like hell that I want to escape from our country. It is because I am still looking for the brighter side like we have so many natural resources and the hospitality of the people here. What is the sense of ranting all the time in the first place if we are not doing anything that can benefit us? As if that video would help for the development of our country.

My thoughts exactly, Metatronik. If he is that miserable here, wouldn't it be best for him to go home and be happy there? Thanks for your response. Have a nice day ahead.

If you try to watch his video with an open mind, the things that he posted that he hated are exactly the same ones that most Filipinos hate. Do you like open manholes? People peeing anywhere they like? Cockroaches? I know a lot of Filipinos felt like he was lam bashing the country with his list of things that he hates about our country, but these are facts. Instead of getting angry at him, why can't we just fix these things that he listed as the things that he hates? It's like eating at a restaurant. It is your favorite restaurant but there are flies, cockroaches and rats about. The bathroom smells. Do you keep quiet about it? Chances are you will do the exact same thing he did and post it online in any way you can. And your reason for doing so? So that the restaurant can clean up and invite new customers in. We should always look at something in a positive light, even if it mean that someone is rubbing our faults in our face.

I agree with you in that we see the faults ourselves and we don't like some things he mentioned in his video. I look at it the positive way....like being resourceful by putting a drum on a manhole. When I come across a restaurant that looks messy, I leave and don't come back. I do have a choice of restaurants. And I prefer our TV program of Citizen patrol where limitations are shown on TV in a sincere approach to correct and not to ridicule and is immediately resolved by the local government concerned. Thanks for your response, ann25penn.

well, some people are frank and candid on what they see. they talk about what they see without consideration of possible reaction from the others. but some people do this in good faith, in the hope that improvements will be done to these things. i appreciate the video and what he says there. now we know where we have to improve and do something.

Hello Mensab. I agree with you that people are entitled to their opinion. But he could have expressed these in a constructive way. And I believe we don't have to be told these in such manner. We know this and in fact, I see these observations in our local TV but done in an entirely different way. Thanks for your response and Cheers.

I suppose it could be he misses his home country and the way it was there. He may have made the video when he first moved and was not liking the transition. I watch a vlogger from time to time who migrated from Canada to Taiwan and while at first he didn't seem to like it too much he was open minded about why.

No. He mentioned in his video that he has been here in the Philippines for three and a half years and is working. Three and a half years and he survived inspite of his misery. The blogger you mentioned at least is open minded. Thanks for your response somecowgirl.

One of our great men - The Manny Pacquiao book
figurativeme is right. I live in our country all my life. Inspite of the hardship we have and the tempting greener pasture, I till intend to serve my countrymen. It is great fun in the Philipines. People are hilarious and we laugh at our woes. We love life. We have good traditions and culture. We are intelligent people. It is sad that the foreigner did not see that. It is his misfortune

It is a one man's misguided opinion on the Philippines. What's the big deal about having potholes in the street and crazy public transport drivers? It is the same in other countries and more so considering the number of road accidents. Another thing I don't really understand is the big issue on the whitening products. If someone is not comfortable having the deep brown complexion, it is not a sin to make oneself more pleasing as long as you have the means to purchase the product for your own benefit. We never made a big issue from the tanning saloons in other countries. This Jimmy individual has a "hate list" on the country. If he is not happy staying in a developing country, no one is forcing him to suffer the inconveniences. Why stay in a country for than 3 years if you are experiencing difficulties? I don't get it.

I have seen the video and could not finish it. Although I know it's his opinion, i still feel its very unfair. He makes it look like the philippines is the worst place to be in. In fact, I have been in sydney and there are also some places that are not up to his standard. I am currently in Bangkok, and his complaint regarding sanitation, traffic and Filipinos obsession with whitening is can be found here also. Actually the whitening obsession, I am confused here in Bangkok because most of them are fair skinned.
