my best friends little son has measles, a highly infectious disease ,as i went to visit them the little boy wanted me to carry him and play with him i declined ,and the parents were really embarrassed ,how can i make them understands my action

I cannot understand why the parents of the child and who is also your best friend would be embarrassed. The child cannot help having the illness, and plus, that is their child, so why would they be embarrassed? You are their best friend, so why should they be embarrassed?
Furthermore, you did nothing wrong by trying to avoid an illness. Why wouldn't they understand and respect that? Surely even the child would understand someone who does not want to catch an illness, as the child would probably not enjoy being ill.
