How do you recognize beauty?

We all take beauty for granted. You see a good-looking man/woman, and you say "Wow, he/she's hot!". You read a wonderful poem, and exclaim "Oh my God, that was beautiful". You look at a picture of the Sun setting on the mountains - "That painting is breathtaking". But, have you ever stopped to wonder, what makes you feel this way? What is it about that entity or object that makes you realize that it is beautiful? This is, I think, a great way to understand yourself, people around you, and life itself in general. Please do share your thoughts on what YOU think defines beauty, because each of us perceives differently and has varied opinions. Thanks for stopping by !!

When you walk down the beach and watch the sunrise, that's the beauty for me.When it comes to human being, beauty for me is what it is inside your heart.I know it does not work for men because men have a different definition of beauty.LOL.

Thanks for the comment!! Yes, I agree with you. A sunrise is one of the most beautiful things one can experience. But what I want to explore is, why is it beautiful? You might say, obviously it's beauty lies in its appearance. But why does THAT appearance make you feel that way, and not the appearance of other 'ordinary' things? After all a sunrise is just as much an occurrence as a thunderstorm, but who says that a thunderstorm is beautiful?

Not everything is beautiful just because a bunch of people think so. Look at the Monalisa! Everyone loves it and it is not truly beautiful. All kinds of things make a specific item beautiful to one and not to another. It's as relative to one person as it is to another.

I agree. Beauty is something that is defined by each person. It depends a lot on the person's interests and inclinations. But still, it wouldn't hurt to try and understand what makes something beautiful to many people?? For example, like you said, the Mona Lisa. What is it about that painting that has captivated so many? That is what I am trying to delve into with the discussion I posted. Thanks for your valuable opinion.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so it's a personal feeling. Although my art teacher always said I am not allowed to say a painting or sculpture is beautiful. Still I did, since it is according to me and my feelings.

Indeed, beauty is very much personal. Really?? Art teachers are supposed to do the opposite!!! Still, I'm glad you had your own ideas and thoughts about art. Please do share with me what you think makes something/one beautiful. The question may seem odd at first, but it's something we don't tend to address.

True beauty comes from within, it cannot always be seen on the outside--fr that is just an illusion. There are some people for example who might seem beautiful on the outside but have a lousy disposition on the inside that makes them ugly. I'm not even talking abut implants or dyed hair, all of these things just enhance an outer beauty. You can still be a beautiful person by the way when you have implants or dyed hair, that doesn't always physically make you ugly as long as you have a good heart. I would be old enough now to really know that at 48, so believe me. There is an 'attraction' for things as a sunset in other ways, the beauty of that is nature, and how nature features it's treasures. A poem comes from the heart, therefore it can be beautiful. I hope that helps you figure out what is meant by beauty.

Hmm. interesting view of things... Yes. Without doubt, a person cannot be truly beautiful on the outside if they are not good natured. Thanks for your opinion!!

we see beauty in a lot of things! and we should since God created all things and all He created are beautiful! We can see beauty in other people, in living and non-living things, in art, in music, etc.

I don't really have standards in beauty as the things I find beautiful varies in a lot of ways. I think beauty is hard to describe in words. But I know something is beautiful when I feel it. The feeling I get when I see something beautiful is a very light feeling. And before I even know it or think about it, my mouth would automatically say, wow it's a thing of beauty.

Beauty can be described in so many ways....The beauty of a woman can be her face, her legs, her lips, the way she walks, the way she talks, her personality, and a whole host of other things can describe the beauty of a woman... That goes for the man as well, with the exception of his legs of course...lol The beauty of a picture can tell so many things.......The beauty of a baby when she/he laughs, when she/he cries, and also when she/he is playing. The beauty of a brand new car can be a site to see........ The portait of someone or something has been beauty This world has so many beautiful things that I can sit here typing for ever.... Then there's the fact that what I may see in beauty, you may not...but we can go on for every on that subject

What's natural and nature is beauty to me. I don't like people who dyed their hair or have implants.
