2012 Planetary alignment: Is there a need to panic?

Early this morning, I have heard over a radio news program about the planetary alignment relating it to the end of the world or the doomsday. Because of the commentary, there are many who believed that this phenomenon might endanger the earth. I checked on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) website to check if there is a need to be alarmed or what. It was quite a relief that the site cited that nothing bad will happen to Earth in 2012. They added that earth has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.
So, I just would like to know your thoughts about these. Do you believe that the planetary alignment in 2012 will be a threat to mankind? How do you feel about the claims of the 2012 doomsday?

I have heard about Planet X, and each time it comes into alignment with the earth, it causes magnetic shifts which result in earthquakes.
They happened right around when Japan's quake and Turkey's quake happened. There may be something to it. It is supposed to come in alignment I think with the earth and the sun around May of 2012, or so the rumour is. It is supposed to pull the magnetic shift so forcibly, it will cause the poles to shift to their opposite, dragging most of the American West Coast under water.
Some of it is probably true, some of it exaggerated. Nasa program has more info than they are sharing.
I heard a radio interview about an asteroid that is supposed to come close to the earth in 2029. I also heard that we spend in one year on the military what we do in 50 years on space research. We need to know more about the universe. It will help us understand our own planet better and help to protect it.
I guess the one thing is that it doesn't seem like someone could pinpoint the end of the world down to a date. Money is already being made off this. Like underground bunkers in top secret locations and apocalypse supplies.
I think we will survive it, but we need to smarten up.

nothing is going to happen to this planet, it will never happen in our life time, it annoys me that people still believe this world is going to come to an end in 2012, what about the rapture, people were giving their things away when people said that the rapture was going to happen, it didn't happen and it never will, it's only an alignment of the planets, the world won't end unless something really drastic happens like the sun falls from the sky and that will never happen, so there's no need for any alarm, our planet is safe, were not going to crash and burn any time soon.

Perhaps the reason why the people here in out place are starting to believe that the world is going to come an end in 2012 is because we're experiencing quakes every now and then. We haven't experienced them before and it's really scary that every now and then we are experiencing them.. :-(
But I still believe that our planet will be safe and that there's no need for any alarm.. :-)

yes the earth does move from time to time and this will cause quakes, but it can happen anywhere i live in UK and we never get quakes, however a few years ago we had a large quake which was about 6, it was felt from miles away, i even felt it and some of my pictures fell off the wall, i was shaken to say the least because it never happens here, but it's never happened since, i really do think that people should stop worrying about our planet and world coming to an end it's sending fear to everyone who thinks this will happen, maybe in a few million years time, this could happen, but not in 2012

I also checked the NASA website and true, there is nothing to be alarmed of. For centuries, there have been several planetary alignments. Nothing cataclysmic has ever happened when they occur.
