Is there any way to place a animated pic as a profile pic in facebook. I had seen a animated pic in .jpeg format around a month ago as a profile pic of someone on facebook. I lost the link but is there anyone who is aware of such thing ? How can i do that?

The .jpg format has no facility for animation but it is possible to create the effect by loading successive frames/images using Javascript as described here: http://www.webdevelopersnotes.com/tips/html/animated_jpgs.php3 Here is a description of how this can be achieved in Facebook (and Twitter): http://codecatcher.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/how-to-make-animated-jpg-jpeg-on.html Please note that I haven't tried this, so I don't know if it actually works. It involves renaming an animated GIF file with a .jpg extension in order to 'fool' the Facebook upload routine into thinking that it's a .JPG file.

ya i tried that by renaming a gif file to jpeg but it did not worked for me i think that was the only trick but facebook might have fixed it along with recent changes.

I did notice that it was posted last September. Facebook has changed a lot of things and, anyway, tricks like that only really work because of sloppy programming. If you think about it, it's very insecure because it would mean that you could upload ANY file by renaming it ... and that might include files which could be harmful.

Yes, you can always use any animated picture for facebook profile image. All you have to do is download the picture on your desktop and upload to your facebook account. There's a lot of people using animated picture for their profile image, I even do it when I get bored with my own real picture.

no you cant. Facebook converts the gif images to jpeg and so there will be no animation after uploading it. The only way i found is to upload a jpeg(animated) pic for it. But i dont know how a jpeg image supports animation. Whats the trick behind ? Anyway thanks for the response angel

Yes, I'm disappointed about that too that Facebook won't allow animated images. Maybe that's because if everyone's pictures are animated, then it would take longer to load.

This is actually the first time i here of this. I never found a friend who use animation as their profile picture. And since most of the comment said that the trick of changing the extension is not working anymore, i think i will never see it. Too bad, i kinda want to see an animated facebook profile. Thanks for your information anyway.
