Jury Duty

I have been empanelled on a case for the past week and there are two weeks to go. I am really enjoying it! Most other people in my group are complaining about it. I guess I am lucky that I have an interesting case to follow. I imagine more boring, business like cases would drag on and on. Have you ever been called for jury duty? Did you enjoy it? What sort of cases did you get?

We do not have a jury system in our country and I am quite interested on how it feels to be a part of a jury. The only information that I know about jury are those that come from the John Grisham books. However, being a jury also has its disadvantages. When I was following up the Casey Anthony trial, the members of the jury were blamed for the acquittal. Many of them were in fear of their lives because of the judgement which the people understood as in favor of Casey. They were blamed for the decision when in fact there was no real evidence to prove Casey guilty.

I was never called for jury duty when I was young and healthy but was called twice when I was no longer able to get around easily and had to ask to be pardoned from it on account of my health. I was using a quad cane and a brace on my leg, now I am having to use a walker but I am in my eighties so am told they do not ask eighty year olds to do jury duty. I suppose the reason they give is senility which is stupid as I am not senile nor are any others here in Gold crest. old age no longer dictates you will be senile if you keep using your brains all your life.

I've never been called, but I think I'd be interested to see justice in action. I've never been inside a working courtroom.

My country does not practise jury system because the judisry system is corrupted and often verdicts are influence by politicians and in certain period of time, high court judges placement are for sell also, even the protection of jury from tampering will fail in my country if implemented also, because the lawyers and police force are a joke.Often high end cases are handed by 3 judges.

Last May, I was called for Jury Duty for the last two weeks of school. I ended up sitting on a jury that lasted only 4 days. There was a ton of medical jargon that was never explained to us in simple terms. My seat was really uncomfortable. I am glad that I did my civic duty, but it was really a pain in the rear.

I was called up for jusy duty a couple of times a few years ago but I was working then and I just wanted to do my work rather than getting up early and travelling in to the city on public transport, it was a real bother for me and I didn't even get picked from the pool so I just had to sit in the pool room for three days each time, so boring...but now that I am not working I would love to be called up again...

I have been called 5 times. The first two I was raising my young children and had to beg off but the last three I made it to voir dire, the part where the attorneys can question you and choose or reject jurors they think will be more likely to convict or acquit. I never did get to serve, unfortunately. This last case the defense attorney rejected me which was too bad because having heard the basic facts of the case, I was sympathetic to his client. The other two I was rejected because I was obviously unsympathetic. I could have lied and tried to get on so they would be convicted but that's not what our justice system is all about. One was a prisoner who severely beat a prison guard and another was a case of child abuse. I would love to serve on a jury and hear the entire case through. Everyone deserves to have a trial if they wish, with as impartial a jury as they can get.

Don't you get paid for jury duty? Just wondering...
