My husband and I have had the same cell phone company for all 8 years we have been married. He has upgraded his cell phone at least 5 times. I upgraded twice and that is because he bought a phone for me from another person and I lost mine at one time and the phone to replace was too old for me to have it anymore. I don't see the point of upgrading if it works fine for me. He tries to tell me to get with the times but I guess I am just still old fashion. I see everyone else talking about the new touch screens and features. It takes me so long to learn one phone that I rarely use any of those new functions and just use the phone to call out or receive calls. There are so many features on these new phones, they are just like computers. Is it worth it to upgrade? Why can't phones just be for emergency? That is all you see in the store, car, walking down the street is people on their phones. I remember when we didn't have cell phones. Can anyone remember that?

Since I was eligible for a cellphone upgrade, I've already changed my cellphone to a touch screen phone. My postpaid plan goes with a free phone so I did not hesitate to avail it. It has various features and it really works like a computer. The thing that I loved most about it is that i get to read my ebook through it. Installing various applications in the phone is very easy. Perhaps because I love gadgets that I get to appreciate the new phone versions.
But I still remember the good old times wherein there was still no phone. I can still remember at that time that even if we don't have cellphones, it was easy for us to meet up whenever my friends and i agreed to meet somewhere at a particular time. Right now, it is very funny indeed that even if all of us have our cellphones, we tend to have problems in meet ups. Sometimes people tend to be late on the specified time and that they can get away with it by simply sending an excuse via SMS.
Also, working before is based on the number of working hours. Currently, because most of the people have cellphones, it would seem that people should be available 24/7. Still missed the good old times...

I've had a cellphone for about 10 years and I've had three of them. The battery in the first one quit charging up, the second one still worked, but I had a chance to upgrade for free so I did, but didn't really need to. I kept the old one "just in case" and have used it a time or two since then.
Like you, I don't see the need for all the fancy stuff. Mine is pretty plain. It's a flip type, but no camera, no internet access or anything else. I just started texting a few months ago because my daughter and I have an account together and we set it up for unlimited texting through a special. Until then, I had never even tried to text, but it has a few advantages.
My daughter has a smart phone, touch screen, etc with a pull out qwerty keyboard. This is the third one she's had like that and they haven't lasted. She has to charge it every night. She just got the last one in July and already she's having problems with it and had to call customer service, but they couldn't do anything, so they're sending her a replacement.
I have enough other things to worry about, thank you! I just want a phone that's a phone.
Can I remember when people didn't have cellphones? Yep... I remember when people had party line phone service. I remember when we didn't have a phone of any kind!

I upgrade quite often, but then cell phones seem to get better and better, and I like to keep up with technology. I do have the phone now, that I have really wanted, so I more than likely will hang onto it for awhile. It does get expensive to upgrade every few months, that is for sure, but I usually upgrade once a year. You are right though, that if it works, then why should we upgrade? I do enjoy using a smartphone and will continue to use it as much as I can, even post in here once in awhile. The thing of it is though, is the battery in a cell phone won't last all that long, and either we have to replace the battery, if we can, or replace the phone. I only charge my battery up though when I get the low battery warning and not before. Take care, and have fun mylotting.

Well it's true that if you don't upgrade your phone it would get forfeited. So it would be a good idea to get the phone, if you don't like it you can sell it. At least it' like gettibg your money back. I have upgraded my phone only becase of cwrtain benefits that I need: I type faster on qwerty keypad, i have two lines so i got a dual sim phone, and i like listening to music so I make sure the phone is capable of such. (i think most phones are, anyway). That's only why I would upgrade.

Yes, I can remember the days when we didn't have cell phones. Life was easier back then, and definitely more private.
I don't always upgrade my phone. I am still using the one I got 2 years ago when I lost the one I had. Since then, I had a free upgrade, but that new phone is acting more like my alarm clock. I am happy to be able to just call and sms. No need to play games or such. I could also go to the web once in a while though to check out information albeit the small screen.
You are right. There are too many functions. It is nice to have them but why bother. We will hardly use them.
