for proffesionals n research ppl, scientists...linux would be the best ...for the lay men windows would do...linux is a powerful os...but linux is can be easily obtained at a low cost ...hereas windows is expensive...at home i use windows..for the projests n stuff n use linux kde...

Windows is for "dummy's" is what to most people say.

the point which comes out here is thaat the two generally have two very distinct set of users..linux is more preferred by programmers and windows by general users..thats doen't make one better or the other worse..its just that we are more habituated to one and therefore prefer to stick with the same..
