I was taking my daily walk one evening. At the time I lived right outside of town on roads which only had 2 and 3 houses on the roads. It was dusk and I had my earplugs in listening to some good christian music. All of a sudden a deer made a flying leap across the road, and he was so close to me that I actually felt his wind on my face. If that deer had been probably 6 inches closer to me he would have knocked me upside a tree and broken all my bones. That scared the, I don't know what out of me. I was a nervous wreck the rest of the evening! What kind of encounters have you had with deer or other wild animals?

Since we moved up here I have had numerous close encounters with echidnas, which are about as dangerous as a kitten unless you try to pick them up (they have very sharp spines), kangaroos and wallabies, which are totally non-hostile, and a king brown snake and a red-belly black snake, both of which are seriously deadly. The irony is that they turned up in our own back yard, while the others were in the forest where we used to walk our dogs until the little one survived a snake bite.
Mind you, if any of the kangaroos had actually jumped into me it would have been a fraction questionable as to the result lol, they are at least as big as deer. At least we don't have to worry about big cats or bears. Our native bears aren't actually bears at all, are much smaller than real bears, and are rarely dangerous. Glad you survived the experience.

Why thank you Pergammano, very kind. Probably just a fleeting visit, but who knows.
BTW, where is the Purple People Eater, I can't find him.

Hey guys! What's going on? Yeah we have bobcats here and coyote, wolves, fox, deer and a couple more animals. Can't think of them right now. Oh yeah, one state over when I was doing fundraisers door to door, there were little brown sugar bears.. A woman I met actually left food out for them every day. I thought that was pretty neat! Cause I'd never known of being anywhere before except the zoo where there were bears.!

Well yeah. That's all they end up on top of peoples cars when they are driving down the highway, and they end up with a deer leg through their dash. If they didn't leap, they wouldn't go through the dash.

I live in the county and have had many encounters with wildlife. In sitting in my backyard in the swing I happened to see out of the corner of my eye something move. When I turned my head, there standing not more than a few feet away were 2 deer. One was looking at me while the other was eating grass and would look up occasionally. I did not move as I did not want to scare them and continued to watch. They eventually turned and walked away. I have seen many deer running and leaping across the fields behind my house and I love watching them. I have also had many squirrels just walk right up to where I was and have fed them corn. They do not seem to be afraid. I love watching the birds and all wild animals and find it very relaxing.

Oh, I love it katie. I would love it if I could sit and watch that close to them. I usually just see them as I am passing by in the car or sometimes way back in the field like 300 or so feet back. I have tons of squirrels in my back yard cause they love my pecan trees. I just love nature, and when I get to see to or 3 deer on the side of the road when I drive by slowly, I say 'thank you Jesus. they are beautiful'.

Isn't it amazing. It's just one of those gifts God gives us to enjoy. It's a peaceful thing to see things like this isn't it? One of life's little joys!

Yes they are wonderful to watch. It never ceases to amaze me nor do I ever get tired of watching them run and leap. They are so graceful and beautiful. These animals are absolutely amazing. The squirrels are actually starting to move closer to us and eat. They do not seem to be afraid at all. They know that will will not hurt them.

That was really close. I can feel the fear and how scared you are. I don't have any encounter recently but long ago I remember when a monkey attacked me while wondering in the zoo. That was really scary when a monkey suddenly grab the pack of chiz curls I am eating and then come another monkey and then another one and saw myself being trapped in the middle. Thanks a zoo keeper is too attentive and saw what happened. I couldn't imagine myself being dragged by monkeys up on a tree (lols) :p

Oh my goodness angelgee, I can just imagine how your mind had to be racing at the time. I was have been freaked out by that. That is quite a story. I can't believe that the zoo didn't have them put up enough that they couldn't get out to the people looking in. That's too crazy. Whenever I go to the zoo again and see the monkeys, I know I will think about those monkeys coming after you! I'm glad you weren't hurt!

typo error
wandering (not wondering)hehehe
That was an open zoo Chrystaltears, and that was fault either. I forgot to hide the junk foods before entering the zone. I missed the signage. It's a safari in Singapore where some animals are not in a cage.

Oh. Okay. That does make alot more sense. Silly me. I can see where it would happen now and how. Better be careful and hide the junk food next time. LOL!

No, I never encounter with wild animals cause there are no mountains or forests in my village. I like dogs and cats very much, when I go out of my house, I always looking for and admiring cute animals raise by other families.
In your case, you have better be more careful when you leave your house.Er...I think your homeland must be very beautiful that wild animals can be met near your place.

Yes, it is very beautiful! I wish you could visit. The next time you are in this area, let me know and I can show you around. We'll at least see the deer. The others aren't usually that visible, but from time to time we drive by them on the edge of the road.

I know that a deer is nice looking but not from too close. That remind me at one time when my kids were a lot younger,we were living up in the near north Manitoulin, we were walking and all of a sudden 4 deer came out of nowhere from the woods ( the mother the babies ). There were close enough to see them well but not too close to get run over on the process.

Oh, that's something nice to see. It always excites me to see them. I bet your kids loved it, didn't they. Wow! I can imagine! It's good they weren't too close. That could be bad, couldn't it?

Good morning, dear chrytaltears...from DEER country! You had better, my dear friend...take my name off your visiting Bucket List! I don't mean to trivilize your encounter with the deer, BUT that type of encounter with deer is soooooo commonplace here! Daily, it is a trial just to get to work, unscathed...I only travel about two miles, at daybreak, or depending on time of the year, in the dark, and I daresay, I more than likely encounter 20+ in that short distance...and each meeting a near collision!
I commute....and have done so, for the last 4+ years on my E-bike (looks very much like a motorcycle...but NO noise, as it is electrically powered)..and because it is silent, other than road noise, it is a real challenge to arrive unscathed. Last June, I had a "Knock 'em down" collision...with a doe, and my bike took the worse of the match-up! My ego was pretty bruised, too...arriving at work, covered in muck...LOL!
Our biggest problem, here on the Gulf Islands...is the plethora of deer, as they have NO enemies in this environment. No natural predators...other than once in a while the occasional cougar, will arrive via a log...THEN the entire Island is on alert, tracking dogs brought in, it is tranquilized and transported OFF Island!
When a cougar is here, I take my truck to work...as if they are hungry..nothing stops them! I hate the days of cougar sightings...as we have to live vicariously! Nice to hear from you, DEER (LOL)!

Oh my gosh, pergammo. That is so wild. I cannot believe this! You must have to have alot of good insurance there to cover the accidents there must be on a regular basis.
There are quite a few deer auto accidents here also but doesn't sound anything like where you are. Nothing like that! Now, everytime anyone leaves someones house in the country here, they always say 'be careful and watch for deer. They're real bad on this road'. It's funny cause if you just left someone else's house, they just said the same thing!
I can't imagine having to dodge cougars. How about that! That is crazy! At least, we never hear of any of the other animals here trying to come into contact with anyone.
I love animals and I love nature. I love it when I see an animal that isn't domestic! I feel like it's a treat!

Whew! That was a close call, for sure. I have never had a close call like that before but my folks have told me of a story when they were just dating. They were in the car and a deer leaped from one corner of the car to the other from front to back, and just missed running into them instead. they were lucky. No accident. My mother is a huge deer lover and she never had anything against them for that either.
I did almost get bit bad by a stray cat outside though. I had on a fake leather coat as it was a cool Fall day, my one old cat was out in the garden, and I was kind of protective of him and due to the fact he was very territorial and also sick at the time, I went up to them both when one of them was hissing, etc. The other cat got spooked and actually turned around quick and "bit" my arm. I think something accidentally touched his tail and he got scared but he would have really got me good if I hadn't had my coat on, the biting didn't go through the coat! Whew. I was so mad at that cat though and now I feel bad about chasing it away. :(
