The unseasonably warm weather patch I guess is supposed to go away this week and next week. I told my husband the oven won't be used much soon. It heats up the house witch is fine when it's cold outside but, not when its warm. I promised to make the last batch of cinnamon, carmel rolls and cheese cake this week. It's a lot of work but it won't happen again for at least six months. What activities do you do differently depending on the temperature?

I do not bake much either in Winter or Summer but there are some foods I make more with a cold weather such as soups and casseroles. In Summer I prefer cold dishes such as a good salad. When I cook some chicken for my salads, I save the broth in the freezer to make soups as soon as the weather gets colder.

This is true when we used to live up north using the oven when it's cold makes it warmer inside when it'sold I make a lot of soups and chili nothing like coming home to a hot bowl of chili I work outside and it rains a lot here in sunny florida so when I get wet it's soup or chili time in the summer we do a lot of salads too

I save many of my broths in the freezer during the Summer so that when the weather is cold I can make hor soups, casseroles and stews. I even save fish broth made with fish bones to add to seafood risottos (a wonderful Winter meal).

I totally understand. No more homemade chili or soup for a while....and baking not unless the granddaughter is here....that is one of her favorite things to do....and today I took off the flannel sheets..the last two night I have woke up just sweating from having them on the bed. Back to summer sheets!

My favorite time of year is "berry season". When I run into blue berries that have the most flavor and don't have to be sweetened with sugar I buy so many of them my friends and neighbors think I'm crazy. I preserve them, I make a sauce out of them, we eat them fresh. Nothing is wasted! When a good friend asked me 4 months later if I could spare a pint of one of my berries, I teased her; "Didn't you just call me crazy a few months ago about getting a lot of these berries?" She got to thinking about it and realized I just might be right!
I'm expecting a van this year, filled with women who are going to do the same thing I'm doing!
Then there is the tropics. The first time I went where it never got cold and definitely didn't snow. I learned they only have two seasons; drought and the rainy season. This dictates what they will be eating.
Here, back in the early 1900s the kitchen wasn't even attached to the house, only accessible to the house so the kitchen wouldn't heat up the house during our warm weather.
