Opening your big mouth and now you have to do a really hard craft project.

I had woven a cute little pocket for someone. It is hot pick, a corresponding purple, and a blue. It is for someone who is going away. She likes Egyption things. So I said, "I just learned that you're going away, so I had to hurry and make this for you." I thought that would be the last day I would see her. "If I had had more time, I was going to make the Eye of Horus for you. "I'm not leaving until next week and you have time to make it. I'd really like that." Oh drat. Did I just volunteer myself to do that? Yes I did.
Could be worse. My T'ai Chi Instructor volunteered to do 21 costumes for a friend who is teaching children's dance. One Eye of Horus in a week is looking good.
So have you ever volunteered yourself or have someone volunteer you to do something that is kind of hard to complete? Be careful. This opening your mouth and volunteering to do a lot seems quite contageous.

I am and have always been shy to speak up and volunteer or much of anything else. (I LOVE Egyption things!!) Volunteering to do alot seems overpowering to me. You must enjoy doing it or I would think you wouldn't freely volunteer.

I did search it, and it is a pretty emblem. I will look at this link as well.
Writer, could you just embroider it in black on white fabric, like linen? Does she wear glasses, could you make her an eyeglass pouch? It would look really neat. Or a cell phone case would look good with the design running longways.

I love making people happy with things I make. Do you remember what the Eye of Horus means. Garden Gerty wants to know. I learned it in High School, but that was a long time ago.

It is a sign of power given to the wearer by the Gods of that time. Here is a link:

That sounds like fun! Lots of prep and materials plus running around making sure everyone is getting it, but pretty cool just the same.

Well sometimes things are scarier in contemplation and more fun in actual doing. Thanks and take care.

Ouch! I understand where you are coming from on this one. Talk about creating a stressful situation. Hopefully you have time to get the project finished. I can't recall getting myself backed into a corner when it comes to making my crafts. I also avoid special orders that someone needed "yesterday." It stresses me out so what I do is offer a project that I already have in stock. I always make duplicates of my projects just in case.

It wouldn't be so bad, but I'm having my eyes dialated today so I won't be able to work on things much. But I think I can use burlap and embroider or paint instead of weave. I have a scrap piece of burlap, so that should be neat.

I always find myself fixing or reformatting either a friend's or relative's computer. I am known to be the tech guy or the go to guy for this kind s of stuff around my friends and relatives so they would start of by asking questions and advices and it would usually end with me volunteering to do it for them. It's no a hard task but it consumes a lot of my time. I don't really complain, but sometimes I wished I just never talked myself into it.

Yes, that is rough. You'd like to stay home with a good book and there it is. Another messed up computer. The need to straighten out computers never ends.

Yes, once you open your mouth and it's out there, you're stuck. You can't do something for one and not for another.

My daughter actually volunteered me for a project once that was a bit overwhelming. I had just learned how to make these really cute ribbon hair ties and she told her cheer leading coach that I could make them for the whole team before their competition in a week!!! In a week!!! I recruited my daughter..of course her little tail was going to help after that...and a couple of other moms and did barely get them all finished. Shew...that was a close call.

Good for you! Put the making of some of them back on her. That's not you opening your mouth, that's her opening hers. I bet she might have thought to ask befoe she volunteered you again.
It they're the ribbons you're thinking of, they're cute and a teen would have a rough time not volunteering to have everyone look that cute. Bet they were cute when finished.
These one week deadlines are killers. It's going to take me days just to figure out how to get it done and with my health, I take naps a lot!

Yes, there have been times I have been known to volunteer myself to do something, and many times do not get the type of help I would think would be there. It does make it quite frustrating when you are pressured for time, especially if it is something that you have not done a lot, and just not sure you can make it look the Best in that amount of time. But I am sure you can make it look nice.

I hope so. I think I'll try to embroider it into burlap so I don't have to weave again, just make the picture. Thanks for the words of encouragement. I seldom volunteer when it's a group thing for that reason, just for things I can accomplish (I hope) on my own, thanks and take care.

eep.
Although to be honest, it kind of sounds like your friend could have just said thank you for the pocket you made instead of suggesting you make another gift.
I've done this though. I've ended up sewing costumes for people at the last minute, that kind of thing. I'm getting more careful about not offering to help, though.

She didn't suggest I make another gift. I told her that if I'd had more time, I'd have made an Eye of Horus to put in it.

Oh, I have costumed plays and made clown costumes and stuff like that. I have not done much crafting in ages. I am trying to understand, is this a pocket or a pocket book you made. And what is an Eye of Horus?

It's a pocket, not a pocket book. I used popcycle sticks glued into a square. I wound the yarn around it, wove a side, then around each side and the side popcycle sticks. Cut the string on the top and made knots on each side. One side was shorter than the other and it opens slightly. It's a pocket. If I make another I'll take a picture and put it on. I didn't because I was trying to get it done and to her all in a really tight time period because I thought she was going to fly to California today. So I thought I didn't have time. I was told Saturday night she was leaving this week. But it's actually next week.
Eye of Horus, looks like an eye. It's a symbol on some Churches and is on Egyption carvings, pictures, pottery, etc. I used to know more about it, but I've forgotten. It's the smallest and least talent required thing I could think to make her happy that I might be able to make. I typed in Eye of Horus picture and several came up. I didn't type any search for the meaning. If you put "Eye of Horus picture" in a search, you will get several pictures so you'll know what it looks like. I just have to figure out how to make it. If you type in meaning then you'll get the meaning of it.
Right now I'm trying to figure out how to take what the piture lookslike and what I have here to make one.

OH my goodness! I hope she has lots of time to do it, they provide her with the material and thread. Otherwise, that's a lot of money. Hope the choir gowns are simple and they don't spring anything to complicated on her.
Let us know how that goes, please.

Finally, after years of suffering through one project or another I have learned to close my mouth and keep it closed. If I am at all tempted I will volunteer to do a small part of the project. Old age is good for somethings.

Hi writers efge: I know what you mean. Sometimes we make this mistake offering us to do things and we realize our words we notice that we actually don't want to do this due to our lack of time or because it's really hard. But we make this mistake because we want to be nice with the people around us. At least you can feel good with yourself for doing a good action. Sometimes we feel so bad for saying these things.

Very true, goodness knows when I will see this young person again and I'd like to make something that will make her happy.
