My friend's son recently broke in Hives. I was just wondering what causes this condition? He had to go to the doctor for some medication for it. My friend said it is sometimes caused by stress or it can be an allergic reaction to something. My husband's step mom had shingles which are very painful because it affects your nerves. It is caused by stress also, I am curious about allergies and how they affect people. Your thoughts, or stories, My Lot, friends!

Hives, usually itch, but they may just be raised bumps on the skin. The most common cause is allergy to something touched or eaten. Shingles is not related,
this is an outbreak of the chicken pox virus and if not treated can be dangerous.
I know os several cases where this caused blindness. It's one of the most painful conditions you can have, there is a shot you can take to prevent it. Stress often seems to bring this on.

My daughter got hives which for her are usually caused by stress. She has always been a very stressful child having to go on medications at various times in her life (she is almost 19).
I broke out in hives when I had mononeucleosis when I was 17. I took penicillan which they say caused the outbreak. I went for years thinking I was allergic to penicillan only to find out that the combination of mono and penicillan can cause hives to break out. I do not have an allergy to penicillan and do take it now but I had to suffer a terrible stomach upset from an alternative antibiotic before I found that out.
I also remember having hives a couple of years later and it was determined to be brought on by stress. Stress causes a lot of stupid things to happen to the body from cold sores to hair falling out. Not only do we need to learn better how to deal with stress, we really need to find a way to eliminate it from our lives. I have fibromyalgia and one doctor I saw back when I was first diagnosed said I needed to get rid of the stressors in my life. At the time I had two small children. Sure, I said, get rid of the husband, the kids, the financial problems... that's easy. Life is just too stressful. Wouldn't it be great if we could all live in a mountain cabin or a beachside cottage with no worries at all?

hives can be very danergous as well. i once had hives break out all over my entire body due to an allergic reaction to some medication. due to hives, i ended up going to emergency because they were not going away and were interferring with my breathing. i have never been so itchy in all my life. it felt like giant mosquito bites all over my body.

As a child my skin was very sensitive to detergents. My grandma washed some of my clothes in the regular detergent and I broke out in hives. As a child I would be given a small amount of benadryl and was told not to scratch.
I got them several times during my pregnancy. My doctor thought that they could have been hormonal. I could not take anything for them and just had to let them go away on their own...and again try to leave them alone.

I broke out in hives and I even lost my hair at 7 years old. I was under great stress at the time. We were moving away from my home without an actual plan about where we would live. I still have a bald spot on my temple under a bit of hair that hides it. One time last summer I had a hair cut and they cut into that bald spot and I looked horrible... I cried from it.
Anyway, back to hives. Stress and allergies is all I know of that causes them.

It's good if the medication works, but if it's an allergic reaction, it would be good to find out the reason, so he could avoid it. Like something new food that he ate, or a cream.
I'm sure that stress can cause it too, or stress can make you allergic to something. My mom got pollen allergy when she had a stressful job, it was very bad even with medicine, and when she quit few years later, her allergy got much better. So there must be something in it.

Hives is an allergic reaction to something. It could be food, something he touched or any number of things. My daughter broke out in hives and we never found out exactly what it was. My son had hives twice due to an allercic reacton of an illness. My cousin would break our in hives when he got hot and sweaty. Hope your friend's son is ok.
