I'm just wondering if there is anyone else out there who does NOT own a cell phone. I do not have a cell phone, Ipad, Itouch (Iwhatever) blackberry etc. I don't need one, I don't want one. No I do not need one for emergencies. And no one ever calls me anyway.
Have a happy day!

I don't have a cell phone. I do a lot of my work either from home, or when I'm out working, I can not be bothered by someone calling me up or text messaging me. What I do have, is an itouch, which I use for my schedule, to take down notes, to have contact information for someone, to watch a tv show or movie, and to go on the internet when it's available. Its really quite handy, and I don't have to deal with people calling me when I just plain don't want to be bothered.
If I'm ever out, and have an emergency, or need to get in touch with someone, I can get wifi pretty easy, or I can find a pay phone, or just ask someone to use their mobile. I get in a situation like that, maybe once a month. No problem.

Even kids in our country already have cell phones in hand so they can contact their parents during emergencies & the like. But most of them have cell phones to communicate with their friends or to play games.

I see your point. But a friend of mine in Barking, London woke up in the middle of the night to see two men in hijabs jemmying into his front window. He tried to call the police on his landline, but they'd already cut the wires. He tried to keep them out with a garden spade, but they injured him and tied him up. While they were upstairs gathering things, he managed to free himself and escape to a neighbour's ...
He now has a mobile phone. And so would I, if I hadn't already had one - nothing fancy, the cheapest Nokia I could find (I'd have bought a cheap Sagem, now Mobiwire, if I could have found one), on the cheapest PAYG tariff I could find (In Europe, something like Lycamobile, Lebara, Vectone, etc).

okay. i think it's really a necessity now to buy phones. you really need a way to communicate to your family, your love ones, and for work. maybe you don't need one today, but you'll be needing one when time comes. like, if you have to check how's your girlfriend doing, or you could check how's your kids safety, or when your boss calls you to rush work on something.
you really don't need an extravagant mobile phone. cheap ones would do. you just need the basic call or text feature. any added feature like cameras or built in apps and gadgets is not needed.
i still own a cheap phone, and i don't want to buy those expensive phones. i'm okay with that. if i need a phone with a camera, i'll buy a good camera instead. it's better than those that are installed in a camera.
let's just be wise with our money, and just don splurge on something that is not needed. but a basic phone, man, you gotta have one. ^__^

Yes there is, I don't own a cell phone and don't miss having one either! I would hate to answer a call while I was on the bus or tram, as I think my conversations should be private and not for all to hear, regardless of what I am talking about! I think people just use it as a kind of status symbol and I don't need something like that! You have a happy day too, without a cell phone!

I do have a cell phone that I do use when I need to contact friends or family. But I do not own a iPad or a netbook that I see kids in my country seem to carry with them anywhere. And what's absurd about these kids with iPads and Netbooks is that when you look at what they're doing, they're just either playing solitaire or just doing Facebook!

I know some people that don't have cell phones because they don't like them. I have one because I travel alot and i'm always driving by myself so I keep it for emergencies. And i have family that live far away so i have a cell phone so i can talk to them for free because were all on verizon plans. But otherwise I probably wouldn't have a cell phone because I really don't need it. I can talk to friends etc on the computer and home phone is probably much cheaper then what i'm paying for now but it gets me around. We don't have a home phone anymore since everyone has cell phones now.

I don't know a single soul that is an adult and doesn't have a cell phone. They have become a necessary part of life, especially for people who have to make deliveries as part of their job.. and people who work at night and have to drive at night. I've been stranded in the late hours of night before everyone had cell phones and I had to get out and walk at night on the road. Anything could have happened. I would never do that now, phone or no phone.

My brother has no cell phone, computer, ipad, kindle, or any other device like them, with the one exception of a cd player I bought him. He sees no reason to get this stuff this late in life.
The funny part is that he calls ME if he wants to send letters to the editor of any newspaper. I type it up on the computer and send it via email. lol. Last week the newspaper printed three of his letters.
He also doesn't use central heat or air conditioning unless the weather gets to the real extremes, like below the teens or above 110 degrees and uses only one light at any given time in his house. His utilities are ridiculously low. I think he's healthier, too, because he stays outside working on the yards instead of getting fatter sitting in a chair in front of a computer all the time.

He has electricity, indoor plumbing, etc., but he takes one day to cook all meals for a week, then reheats them in the microwave. He lives alone so he does one big load of laundry every two weeks. Most water is used for his florist business and he rolls up old newspapers into 'logs' to burn in the fireplace. His biggest utility bill? Calling me. lol. He uses a 40 watt bulb in a lamp for light at night and watches television after 8 and turns it off by 11. I think he's smart as a whip to keep his costs so low and not be enslaved to modern 'conveniences.'

I have a cellphone. These days, we need to be practical. When something happens to me, I can easily contact anyone from my family. If I need something important done by someone, I can easily inform him through text. We used to live our lives without these gadgets and we were just fine, but now, it's more flexible. I can reach anyone from my contact list if I wanted to, or needed to.

Almost everyone has a cellphone where I live. Unless you are living under a rock, or a hermit, you won't need a cellphone. It is possible to not own a cellphone. People in the old days didn't have one and they survived. It basically just makes communication easier as compared to using a landline. I mean how are you supposed to stay connected to the people in your life when you are on the go with no payphone in site?

Frankly, I hate telephones whether landlines or cell phones. They are a nuisance most of the time. When you call anywhere you are lucky to ever speak to a person and in the case of my husband's health, two calls to his doctors that required me to leave messages on answering machines were never answered. He ended up in the hospital both times for amputations. Then they wondered why I didn't want them as his doctors.
I would be perfectly happy to have all cell phones disappear. There seems to be no place you can go without having them interrupt meetings, shows, meals, or just chatting with friends.
I prefer privacy more than constant communication.

I must be the last Canadian alive who is over the age of 6 that doesn't own a cell phone. If someone wants to call me they can do so on my land line, when I'm home. I don't want to be bothered when I'm out doing something. To be honest cell phones irritate me. People who use them when at work are the worst. Ummmmm, excuse me, can you quit texting your boyfriend or fighting with your kids or whatever it is you're doing on there and help me out here? What do these people think they are getting paid for anyway? To come to work and send texts?

Oh yes! And while we're on a rant here, it annoys me to no end when I see someone at a social gathering, a party, and the sit in a corner and text! The ultimate insult as far as I'm concerned. They may as well just come right out and say all of you people here are just so dull and boring that I'm gonna find someone more interesting to communicate with. I was a a retirement BBQ for a co-worker and there was one co-worker who sat in her lawn chair and texted the whole time! In fact, the only time she looked up from her phone or communicated verbally was when I commented on how she was sitting there texting. Talk about rude!

Yes, I do have one. I use it to make calls when I need to, which isw not very often. It doesn't take pictures, It doesn't get the internet, I don't have texting. I don't neede any of that stuff. I don't need a smart phone. My phone is a Motorola which ca get the web and can text - I just chose not to have it when I called to activate it. I paid $25.00 and I pay $10 a month.

I don't have any of that stuff either. I just rely on my home phone and computer. If I start hiking in the nearby mountains again, doesn't look too likely right now, I may consider getting a cheap cell phone just in case.

I do not own a cell phone either. I find them complicated and a nuisance. I do supposed that they are convenient to have especially if you have car trouble but I just do not like them. I tried texting on my daughters phone and did not like that either. No. Cell phones are not for me. I am happy with my house phone.

I do have a cellphone but not the high end one, I only own a phone which suits my needs and demands of everyday life, so long as I can call and text, and I can receive one as well I will be very happy already. I do not need those phone which has alot to it, I just dont prefer them, you know having a cellphone actually helps you too, because if you are out of the house you can send and receive messages from anybody specially in emergency cases, so still I would highly suggest that you get one even those that are simple.
