Last week my daughter went to a growth and development specialist because she is what they call failing to thrive. Since she was born she has always been small even before she was born she was always on the small size. At her 12 months check up exam she dropped in weight and her doctor made us go see a specialist in why she dropped 2lbs. The doctor asked a million questions from why my daughter was born at 35.5 weeks ask me question about my pregnancy my husband family history, my family history and so on and so on. I explain to the women that I've always been on the small size and weight pretty lighter then most people my age and the height that I was. My daughters height and head size have been increase of course smaller then other 13 months old's and probably she will never be the normal size of a person her own age and height like myself. Well the doctor and us found out well she isn't sick healthy as can be all of her labs came back normal or negative for what ever they where testing. For the rest of my daughters life she can pretty much eat what ever she wants because she needs all those fatting foods that will kills because she needs more calories like her momma. So she is like me we can eat what we want how we want to with out it really damaging us to much. So we got a list of foods that we can add to her normal foods that she likes to help fat my daughter up kind of. I crossed off two things because she can not have them yet for her age. Nuts and Honey and the stupid nutrition was telling us it was okay its not okay for a child under 2 or 3 to have those health wise unless they have been tested by there doctor saying its okay. This means more Milk for my daughter and some form of pedisure a day for her. Her doctor had me doing less milk every day but now the specialist said they would tell her doctor about what kind of diet my daughter needs and she should be gaining more weight quicker now or back to where it was before her 12 month check up. We have to go back in 4 months for a fallow up exam at the specialist to make sure that things are working they way they should be.

So she is a little sugar cube and they want her to become a regular lump of Sugar! I remember how she was a small baby, I mean you said the baby bump wasn't too big and she was a preemie! All this means she takes after her mother! I'm glad the tests show what we already knew, Sugar is a healthy baby.

Her being a preemie has nothing to do with her size or my baby bump with her has nothing to do with her size. Her mom was way big then her when she was a baby. She is just pint size like her momma. It just takes more food and energy to fuel us up and get us growing the way we should on our own curves. She'll always be on the small size which isn't bad it'll just mean her doctor will have to take into account more often that she is just genetically made to be on the smaller size and might not ever be at the point of where they might want her to be at but as long as she is growing on the curve the same way every few months then she is fine. There are still a few test they are running but if we don't hear anything back about it we assume that she is okay. She just gets to eat more of that junk food more often.

Im fine nugget fine. I go to the doctor every 4 weeks. I went 3 weeks ago had a heartbeat check everything was fine. Go back after next week another heartbeat check till week 20 or 24 for an ultrasound to see the growth, check the organs and even maybe find out that same day the gender if not then I have to set up a different day for that one. 14 weeks and 1 day today. Next week is our 2 year wedding anniversary.

How is this tough. There isn't anything tough about it and I wasn't the worried like some people think I would be. Its just that I know she was fine I felt she was fine and she is fine and normal just needs more fat in her diet like I do myself. I have the same issue since I was a little girl too. I have never been the wait my doctors have ever wanted me to be at for my age, hight and weight.

Failure to thrive is actually something that is a lot more common than you would think that it would be. My son was actually diagnosed with this at his one-year checkup as well. He didn't gain (or lose) any weight between his nine-month well-baby check-up and his one-year well-baby check-up. It turned out that the reason that this happened to him was because of the fact that he was anemic. However, this was something that we were able to resolve with iron supplements. He is now five years old and though he is slender, he is healthy.

The doctors tested my daughter for all kind of things even cancer. Nope nothing perfectly healthy as can be just small like her mommy. I was just like her and still like my daughter. I just don't gain the weight that is required for myself based of the fact that I have a faster metabolism like my mom. My daughter is the same way which is what I already knew but the doctors didn't know that. She actually since the last time we saw the doctor less then 2 weeks ago gained a pound which is good. She just needs more fat in her diet like myself. More milk helps with that as well as some other normal fating foods that is good for you.

What a nightmare for parents to go through! I don't know how I would handle this information as a mom. I knew someone who could eat anything she wanted but, that would worry me as well. I'm a worrier by nature anyway so this information would definitely push me to the edge! I'm so sorry you have to go through all of this.

I wasn't worried even before we went to the doctors. Even when pregnant with her and people would say thing about my daughter not being healthy. I just knew. It wasn't a nightmare for me or for my husband. NO worries I'm not a big worrier when I know its nothing or feel that its nothing. Even though she can eat what ever she wants like me we do eat healthy we just add in some junk here and there but not every meal and not every day. I do what is right for my daughter with a good diet and add in those things that will help her gain weight more or a regular base with the help of adding on another for of milk next to her whole milk that she gets every day. Don't be sorry for me. I'm not sorry at all. I know my second baby will be most likely the same way as my daughter after they are born. We have fast metabolisums is normal to have in some people. As long as she is always healthy I'm happy. All of her test were good and nothing outside of needing more calories in her diet is there anything wrong with her.
