Hey everyone! I'm kind of excited but I am also kind of nervous. I hate being put to sleep, I always worry about not waking up lol. Anyways I'm sure some of you have had this surgery. Any advice for recovery? I don't really mind pain. But I do wanna be back to my normal routine as soon as possible. I heard all kinds of different things from friends and family. Some going as far as to say the pain is like giving birth. I highly doubt that. What do you all think? :) Wish me luck if you wish ;)

I had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted a number of years ago. I still had my retainer cemented in. My orthodontist refused to take it out until after I got my wisdom teeth removed. He said my teeth would shift if he took out the retainer too soon. Anyway, they put me to sleep with the IV and when I woke up, it hurt like crazy! My mom gave me the Vicodin he prescribed by the oral surgeon. It knocked me out like a light. When I woke up, I felt better and hungry. I ate lots of jello, pudding and sherbet. I seem to remember the pain pretty much stopping after 3 or 4 days. It was a dull ache for more than a week since they had to dig them out.
Stay hydrated. Don't drink coffee or tea or soda. No straws. and soft foods for a few days. Also be super careful brushing your teeth. If you dislodge the clot, you will be in for a world of pain! Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I thought it was easy, And no big deal at all. Boy was i wrong. As soon as the numbness and medicine wore off. I decided definitely to take a Vicodin. I took the gauze out thought i was done bleeding. wronggg! chewed my cheek all up. I was in a world of pain for a couple hours. But now it's settled down I feel so much better. At first i was miserable. Thank you again for the advice. :)

I have had all four of my impacted wisdom teeth out. It isn't too bad. I found that putting a frozen bag of peas or corn against the side of my face helped keep the swelling down. Within a week you will have forgotten what you had done. Follow the Dentist's instructions and all will be okay. Best of luck.
