I hate it when she starts usig the laptop. Because if she starts using it, she doesn't want to stop. The situation a while ago was I was busy mylotting while facebooking and then she eventually inserted. What she is doing is viewing the facebook profiles, pictures and status of people in my facebook. There are some or my friends whom she knows.
She actually doesn't that knowleadgable in using the laptop and internet. I still guide her though. I told her that she must know how to use it because someday she will have her own.
Up until now she is still using it. I can't use my laptop. I just wait until she is tired of it. What do you think mylotters about my mom?

Well, I think your mom is cool! Lol. But if you don't mind me asking, how old is she? My mom will be 59 this year and I'm so glad she doesn't know anything about laptop. And thank God she doesn't want to learn either. :D If there's something on facebook that I want to show her, I usually will show it to her and after that, she will leave me alone again. :) My brothers and I taught her how to text, so we can communicate from it. :)

She is 39 years young my friend. I am glad that she is willing to learn. I can see from her eyes how happy she was when I let her use the laptop. Yes, communication is very important. It is a tool to reach immediately for emergency and important reasons.
Thanks if you think my mom is cool!

OMG!!! Then no wonder your mom CAN use the laptop! :D Well, then I think you both should make some kind of schedule about who is using the laptop first and for how long. That will solve a little bit problem. ;) How's that?

I can't imagine sharing my laptop with my mother--not that she is computer literate, nor do I live with her (or in the same state, for that matter). The only person allowed to touch my machine is my boyfriend, and he has his own, so he rarely has a need to borrow mine--just the way I like it.
I really don't understand why your mother doesn't have her own computer, considering that they start out fairly cheaply. Really, you can get a netbook for $300 or less.

That isn't the way things generally work here in the U.S. My boyfriend doesn't even like when I need to borrow his computer, and I generally don't like borrowing his machine. Computers are personal things--set up to meet the individual's needs and desires.
My mother lives in another state, which is a long drive from here. She does her own thing, and I do mine. If she were computer literate and so inclined, she would have her own computer and have internet access where she lives. She isn't on both counts, and, so, she doesn't.

You have the point though. Those things which a person owns are considered already as private. Respect for privacy is very important. In my view, I am just sharing it for a while this personal thing to my mom knowing that she is my mother and I am just being open to her.
Thanks!

Why couldn't you imagine it? Try to imagine my friend or even let your mother share your laptop with her. I also share with my boyfriend my laptop and he doesn't have her own. He only have a laptop which his entire family are the one using it. They share one laptop.
To give you a better understanding, she doesn't have her own laptop because my father only bought one laptop which is intended for me so I can use it at school. Yes, laptop netbook are cheap these days. I hope to get one soon. She don't need it as of now.

I just thought about my mom, when I got my netbook she just fell in love with it She liked it so much that I even woke up in the middle of the night to see her playing games on it! My mom is quite an expert though, she figures out everything easily.
It's a good thing that your mom wants to learn how to use a computer. When you will be away from home, you will be able to communicate with each other, and she won't need help with using it.

Send my regards to your mom my friend. Just let her play then. I think your mom is so wise. I laughed when you said you have seen her playing games in the middle of the night. For a mother like her, she is so cool!
This is what I am worrying about. What if I am away and I would like to see her through chat and she don't know how to use it? So in order to get rid of it, I liked her to learn how to manage computer.

I am not a bro. I am a sister. A mademoiselle. It is okay if you feel sorry for me Dex. It is because you don't understand the feelings. We all have different views so I respect it. Anyway, yes your are very lucky!
Adhyz82, I think it is already the end of the world for him if his mom will be able to know how to use the computer. He will be threaten. So dex, just make sure your mom will not be interested about computers. Good luck.

Love your mom my friend no matter what. She is your mom. Mom will always be mom. Be the best and give her what you think is best for her. If not because of her, you will not be what you are now, a senior web developer! Congratulations! I am sure your mother is so proud of you.

I'm really confused. You say in your original post that you hate it when she starts usig the laptop. Because if she starts using it, she doesn't want to stop.
Then when you comment back on a response you say how happy you are to be able to bond with your mother this way. You also say I can't use my laptop but later you say your father paid for the laptop and it belongs to everyone.
That's just weird.

That's good at least your mom is willing to learn new things, instead of getting board of nothing. We are same age I'm 40 now and she is lucky that your there to teach her. I studied computer literacy for about 6 month to have a little knowledge in computer. My daughters that time are also studying my eldest is as age as you but she already have her own family after graduation in college. I can still remember the time when they ask me regarding computers. And I'm happy that I can teach them.

Thank you dear. I am happy to see my mom willing to gain new knowledge. In fact, everyday, I teach her how to use it. Most of it are the basics only but I believe are very important. Little by little, I know my mom will carry it out successfully.
Good morning!

Very very cool my friend.
I let her browse the internet and visit the Facebook page. My mom actually said she wonders why do I always sits in front in the computer. She would say I am like a ghost because I sleeps so late. The option of buying laptop will be done soon. Hopefully.

Ah. I have the same situation with my mom. She loves to go on facebook because once she left college, she had no contact with her friends from college. So i think facebook lets your mom connect with old friends. Remember that she probably didn''t have this kind of technology as a kid. The more she uses it the more she will become comfortable with it.

That's good, at least she's learning. So the moment she will have her own laptop she won't keep asking your for guidance then. My mom is much knowledgeable than me when it comes to this stuff -ahaha. At least I don't need to guide her all the time.

It's fun to teach our parents on how to use gadgets, it just happen that my mom is more techy than me (hehehe) but, she doesn't know how to send text message (lols) she's not use to texting, she's too lazy. Whenever she wants to know something or ask anything what she always did is call...duh!- too expensive :p

Congratulations to your mom then! I must say that she is updated maybe with the latest gadgets we have now in town. Am I right? You know what, your mom is so cool. Yes, it is very expensive nowadays making calls. Just let her do it because she finds convenience in it. My mother is the opposite because she is more on texting. She has actually 4 cellphones I think while me I only have 2 cellphones.

Thanks my friend. As for my mom, she is not knowledgeable about it. I want her to learn how to use a laptop so that when I am so far away already someday, we will just communicate through laptop. She is expecting for it to happen so she is just being ready.
I am happy your mom is already an expert unlike my mom. I think she is the one guiding you. Anyway, she returned back to me the laptop.

Hello! I hope it makes you feel better when I say my mom's like that too. It is sometimes annoying specially when you are really very much engrossed with what you are doing, but we have to endure it because we love our moms. I hope my mom would buy a wifi router so that we don't have to share the modem though.

Well my mom uses the computer to overtime. That's why I don't like it sometimes. I don't like it when she brings work at home as I think she needs to relax a bit.
I am working my powers though to convince her to buy a router. :)

I do feel happy when I hear from other mylotters that their mom is as cool as my mom too. Yes, we tend to be angry at them but to think they are just trying to spare some time and get to do things which we are doing right now like this one. Try to persuade your mom my friend. Having a wifi router is very timely. It is very accessible anywhere in the house. We already have a wifi router my friend.

Why would u teach her how to use it? haha That's the way with people, regardless of old or young, when they have something new, they tend to be addicted to it for some time before they get bored of it. IF your mom is new to facebook and stuff, i guess u might have to wait much longer for your chance to use it again.. haha It's just like your mom cooking u your favorite food and when u are eating it halfway, do u want her to take it away from u? haha be patient at least for the time being ^^

Yes I am very patient at her my friend. In fact, I gave her the whole night last night. The laptop was on her. Good thing I have with me my cellphone wherein I can still browse the internet. I want her to be knowledgeable about computers because I know she will use it in the near future.

I am thinking to teach her these days since I have no classes anymore. In that way, we could also bond. Wow! Such a nice idea. Isn't it my friend?
It really irritates when the time you want to use it, others are still using. It would be take a long time already before I could buy a new laptop. I still have to pursue my studies first. Good luck to me and to you also.

To tell you the truth it sounds like you guys need to get another laptop lol. And also i made that same mistake about showing my mom facebook. But the difference is she has her own. What i would do in your case is set her a facebook page up add the people that she nows that is on your page and then she will have no reason to use yours any more. Then if she still has questions you can still guide her. It will take her awhile to understand it. My mom was always calling me at work asking me questions about how do to stuff. I even had to make her facebook for her and just have her tell me everything that i needed to now.

I don't money yet my friend for another laptop. We have a desktop computer though which she can use for the meantime. It is not a mistake. It is an opportunity for them to also indulge in such activity. Good for your mom she already has her own. I am envy of her. I am thinking of making her a Facebook account but then she refused not to. I don't know why. Maybe she is shy.
